Well, I think it's because you want to hire good coaches and not bad ones. I hope he's suddenly become a good one.

Listen, if God didn't intend mUSChamp to be the chosen one at SCAR, he wouldn't have named him mUSChamp.
Sounds like god hates South Carolina. It's ok though. He doesn't like us either.

So 6-9 wins a year and occasionally competing for the East is the ceiling? South Carolina can do better now
You can't have it both ways. You can't say that USC sucks and will always suck, and then have a very realistic ceiling tossed out. 6-9 wind per season is likely the best this program can do, barring some fundamental changes in college ball. Most of us know this well.
USC got caught in a bad time to be looking for a head coach, and we settled for someone needing redemption. If he can bring us back to competitiveness with the occasional SEC CG berth, he'll have done his job, amd done it extremely well.
We're Carolina fans/alums. We know about tempering expectations. But while we breathe, we hope.

Why would you want a guy who took over a top 5 job and went 4-8?
Why do you care?
Why are you spending so much time in this thread that doesn't concern you or yours?
Why did your mother hit that crack pipe and allow that drunk to fertilize her egg that led to your birth?
These are much more pressing questions than the one you asked.
Shall I answer them for you?

I'd say 8-10 wins per season is likely the best average we can hope for ... but most programs do far less. It's not like we'll accept total mediocrity after endeavoring for so long to become relevant. I, personally, will not accept consistent 6 or 7 win seasons ... but neither do I believe that will be Boom's average over time.

This past year realized the most coaching searches in NCAA D1 history at the end of a single season. Was it 38, or did it reach 41? I can't remember.
SCAR did fine considering the circumstances and who we were competing against to fill the position.
Mizzou ... notsomuch. Everyone is still laughing at Mizzou.

We are the epitome of eternal optimists ... always have been. And Boom is going to do well. He'll be here a long long time. We want to consistently finish in the top half of the league, the top three in the East ... and that will be all any program outside of the Top two or three programs in the league can hope for.
We know mUSChamp can recruit, as can his staff, obviously.
Did he learn to be a HC while at Florida? I suspect he did - time will tell.

I admire the hopefulness that ya'll have.
Without getting triggered, what makes you believe this? Why didn't he apply what he learned his first three years to his fourth? He'd still be at UF had he learned from his mistakes.

Well, he put a red shirt on Grier so we'll never know.
I like the way you bring up some imagined old schtick and then bring up a tired old dig. We are all hypocritical when it suits us though.

The royal you. The collective thought process of this board is that past futility = future woes.

I seriously doubt they ever had a shot with Herman. USCe is where coaching careers go to die not to thrive.

Jesus...Nick Saban lost to motherfricking La Monroe his first year. He didn't fricking quit. I'm not sure about the success of WM, but if true USCe came out on top.

From what I understand, Herman had agreed to everything in principle and hadn't signed the contract. The media reporting blew up and he backed out.

I don't mind a little spin to put positivity on a situation that is unknowable, but this statement is ABSOLUTE bullshite.
At the start of their coaching search if you would have told Mizzou fans they ended up with Odom their response on the Rant would have been "welp I guess we settled" or "well he is the safe hire." I saw a few advocate that result from day one actually.
If you would have told USC fans at the start of their long search that they would have ended up with Muschamp the response would have been something like "Frick you SEC Rant in your fat frickibg face! Their is no fricking way we end up with that Florida reject!"
Point being, if we are talking APPEARANCES and fan PERCEPTION then Mizzou made a better hire given their level of expectations and fan "wisdom."
With that said I expect Muschamp to actually do better at his job than Odom because the fan wisdom is way off. Odom got the job too soon due to circumstances, and USC got a guy who can deliver what they want.
But considering the "circumstances" Mizzou ON PAPER made a better hire.

No they didn't
Cute way of capitalizing random words for emphasis though. Nice touch.

I can actually prove they had this thought mentality with a post I bookmarked 3 or 4 months ago...

Boxer I think you and rooster are arguing two different points but are both right. you are saying that AT THE BEGINNING of the search would we have had Muschamp at the top of the board. At the beginning of the search there wasn't really anyone else looking all that hard for a head coach so yes you were right about that.
However, in the post that you quoted from rooster, he said "considering the circumstances and who we were competing against..." again at the beginning of the search there was no competition, you being right, at the end there definitely was, rooster having some valid points.
As far as the Odom hire at Mizzou, can't really comment here, didn't follow his career at all.
