Reviewing rules regarding ineligible receivers downfield, focusing on the balance between offense and defense. Part of this effort will be to find ways to help officials call this rule more consistently. Currently, linemen are allowed to be 3 yards past the line of scrimmage.

Not to take Bama's side but I hope they make some changes.

Additionally, the committee will consider allowing the instant-replay official to stop the game and enforce a targeting foul that was not detected by the on-field officials.
interesting

interesting

I think its interesting that they are essentially allowing the replay booth to call a penalty after the fact.
Can of worms with that one

They just need to be more consistent and find some sort of happy medium. You gotta allow a few steps and allow for players to do their jobs battling in the trenches without having to look down and count their steps but you can't let them 10 yards down the field. But yeah, it's gotten to the point of comedy when the rules committee jumps on whatever complaint Saban happens to have. I honestly don't know of another coach they do that for and I'm sure plenty have legitimate gripes.

Rules committee of 2017 to review legality of counted each point scored against Alabama as 1/2 of a point. Ruling can be applied retroactively.

Bama would have 5 championships in a row had it not been for this cheating tactic.

They should expand the rule to 5 yards downfield. Who gives a shite that it messes up defensive keys? If you have a qb that can run and pass then a team should be allowed to use both without have to show their hand.

Ole Miss and Aub looking at ground right now with hands on hips. Dammit was just uttered.

If they were concerned with player safety, they would blow a play dead the second a helmet comes off instead of penalizing a player for continuing to play.

Seriously, this is one of the more easier rules to enforce. The problem comes with the line judge. It was explained one night one a radio show i listed to on ESPN. Usually the line judge is concerned with the QB crossing the line of scrimmage. If you time it just right the line judge will not pick up the illegal man due to focusing on the QB. The back judge and ref have either a depth perception issue or are studying holding either offensively or defensively and are reluctant to make the call.
It is however, as cut and dried as it gets in relation to the 3 yds. It's a rule that's been in since day one but is rarely called. I'm fine with letting them go 10 yds downfield but let's make the rule to say that.

it's still hard to enforce, do you go to replay 10 times a game to try and catch it

but then L5U would use that to stop offensive gains. sort of like them "playing" hurt to stop no huddle offenses.
