I have a good friend who grew up in Tuscaloosa, attended Shelton State for two years and then transferred to Mississippi State to get a degree in Turf Grass management. He's got a high paying job running a golf course in Georgia right now. Die hard Bama fan.
I don't think someone who lived 21 years in Tuscaloosa, and spent 2 years in Starkville should be expected to become a Mississippi State fan. That's silly as shite.

I'll be going to grad school at another big university other than LSU, and it's highly likely it'll be another SEC school or major Texas university. I already decided that regardless the school would be my second favorite team. Also yes, I know kids who went to ole miss from Louisiana that cheer for LSU

Only applied to USC during high school. early acceptance in October 2005.
Graduated in 2010.
Still live in Columbia.
Still love the Gamecocks.
And yes, no matter how much any of you love to bring up our abysmal history. At least I'm not a sidewalk fan.
Good job of doing the exact opposite of answering OP's question.

I would guess he grew up an Auburn fan. He rooted for their sports without regard to the school. His parents, Auburn grads, who provided for him supported him when he made a different decision based on his life. He just went there for school. Why would he abandon his favorite sports teams? That's not that uncommon. What do you think kids at cc's or small private schools without major sports do?

I think it's a lot more honorable and noble to maintain the allegiance you had prior to college than to flake out and become a sheep just because of where you're attending school. If you can remain a fan of the team you grew up pulling for, more power to you.

Know an Auburn guy in grad school who commutes an hour from Bham to UA every day because he refuses to live in Tuscaloosa

My best friend, an obnoxious Bama fan (RIP), attended Auburn to get a degree in home construction. His business was very successful.

Mississippi College, small Baptists college. They also have one of the two law schools in the state of MS

Has anyone here attended a SEC school that you don't root for and why? Have seen some people state that they have a degree from one school but still chose to root for another one.
My youngest son had a few group of friends that didn't get into Texas and they picked Ole Miss. They are all still diehard UT fans. Only 1/4 wore Ole Miss gear to the UT-Ole Mss game in 2013.

LSU/LSU.....with UF as a very close second. Don't even really have any viable reason behind it - just always liked the school, fans and program.

Fortuantely I was able to attend UGA out of high school, but I've never subscribed to the thinking that you AUTOMATICALLY MUST pull for your school no matter what.
I grew up a UGA fan in a UGA family, but if I were to go to SC or tennessee or something...I damn sure wouldn't just give up on UGA and start pulling for someone else.

Degree from Arkansas system (UAMS.). Born a Bama fan. Bama doesn't have a pharmacy school. Wasn't going to Auburn.

Does going to 2 SEC schools count?

I have one buddy who was a lifelong Bama fan and went to Auburn. He tried to become an Auburn fan, bought a bunch of AU gear, but he pussied out and said he couldn't do it and stayed a Bama fan. Of course he still attended most Auburn home games as a student though.
