I just want a little info. Who was being talked about by the fans as possible hires before y'all landed Saban? Just curious as to where they are now and how they are doing wherever they are.

It was between Belichek and Saban. I think you know what Borh are doing now.

Petrino, Rodriguez, and Saban were the big names.

Rich Rod and his ghastly wife.

Bill Parcells.

RichRod was hired and agreed in principle but his wife backed out.

Rich Rodriguez was supposedly "the guy" at one point. ESPN even ran a story about it. Thank God, his wife Rita hated Paul Finebaum and talked Rich into staying at West Virginia.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I legitimately thought Jeff Tedford was the answer for Bama.

They even mentioned Paul Johnson at one point too. Think I might have hurt someone if that had happened. Geez

I didn't care. I was too busy studying. Rich rod. I didn't follow it closely. I mentioned Saban to my roommate and he laughed me back to my room.

I must've told an hilarious joke.

Dodged a major bullet there. I have one more question with a twist. If you wipe the knowledge of Saban's level of success from your mind, what would one of those other guys have had to do to still be Bama's coach today?

Rich Rod and Spurrier were the other two.

I wonder how long Rich Rod would have stayed after Saban went to (heaven forbid) Tennessee or sime other Bama rival. My guess is we'd be switching coaches out every 3 years looking for someone to beat him.

I remember telling my dad in the truck with a smug tone, "there's no way Saban is coming here."

Boy am I glad I was wrong
