As a starter he was an undefeated champion.
So basically as good as gets

Coming from you this is ironic. You are literally the worst poster on here.
Coker was serviceable and got better through the season. If not for us having that NFL front seven, we lose more games and don't even with the SEC title.
That is the reality. He was so average we had to rely on running the ball so damn much people forgot we had a superstar freshman wideout and a athletic freak at TE.

We can sit here make fun of Jakes imperfections all day long, but you can't take away his love for Alabama this season and his guts he displayed every week to help win a championship for his team. By seasons end, I couldn't imagine another qb under center.

I think that the reality lies more in the fact that our O line was absolutely awful at pass blocking the entire year basically. He could rarely get comfortable back there. That's very difficult for a first year starting QB and I thought that he did well considering that.
Sure, he was average in the first part of the year, but that's hardly even mentionable, seeing as he was good to great from the UGA game onward.
You say that "people forgot we had a superstar freshman wideout" but Ridley had a thousand yards receiving. If you forgot about Ridley, then you didn't watch Bama play football in 2015.
I don't know what your original post said, but I have no doubt that it was lacking in substance.

You literally made not point whatsoever. Do you even understand the topic?
Our O-Line was as bad at pass blocking as Coker was as bad at reading the coverage, throwing the ball on time and ESPECIALLY pocket awareness. Half those times he got sacked it was because he literally lacked any pocket awareness at all.
I like how he grew to be the player we needed, but nobody should be fooled. There isn't a starting QB that has played under Saban who couldn't have won all these game this season.
Coker had the benefit of:
- a heisman RB who could carry it 45 times if he needed.
- super star freshman wideout
- NFL level defensive front 7
- Amazing special teams play
That's without mention the OC most of this forum hated on every day hoping Saban would kick him out, but has been so instrumental he has turned a running QB into our all-time season yard leader and got Coker to be anything productive.
I mean damn, you guys are pretending we didn't just have one of our best defenses of all time out there last season. Just ignore those facts though..
If we had the same poor defense from last year instead of people complaining about our lack of recruiting stars, they'd be saying Saban is finished.

I put him 4th in the Saban era. Just above JPW.

A tough SOB that led us to a National Championship.

I figured this topic would descend into some sniping and some nastiness. It's the reason I mentioned the word respect. Coker helped us win a natty. His dream was to be an Alabama QB. Respect that shite yo.

How is saying the truth not respecting him? If anything that the greatest respect you can give him.
The kid was tough which was ironic because the year before and earlier in the season he didn't look to have that in him. He worked hard and he fought hard.
People making him seem like he was this world beater is just nonsense though. He wasn't. As I said earlier I believe every QB that started under Saban could have won with what was around Coker this season.
We literally had the best defensive front seven in history. HISTORY.
Keep making light of what we had this past season. I won't.

The hatred that some have for Coker even after all he has done is astounding.
Woah dude I never said I hated him. If you gave me the choice of those 5 QBs to go into next year with Jake would probably be 4th. Just my own personal preference.

Someone who got better with playing time. Beloved for his grit and love of his teamates. A winner!

Considering the shite you spew and mods calling you out that's really insulting.
Posted on 1/23/16 at 10:30 am to labamafan
I will remember him as a guy who started the season playing not to lose in competition for the starting job. As the guy who came into a losing situation, played his balls off and nearly brought the team back from an insurmountable lead. As a guy who took a shite ton of hits from pretty bad pass blocking at times. As the guy who made play after play when it mattered the most.
But most of all, as the guy who won Bama's 16th National Championship. And that's all that really needs to be said at the end of the day, imho.
Now, how bout less personal attacks because of opinions. Not everyone is gonna agree and disagreement can be done without the petty name calling.

More of a storied type player, like Sims. What, 5 years of being the back up? Then you come in, don't win the starting job outright, but then win the team over and lead them to a near undefeated national championship season? Pretty cool. We can sit here and talk about his mechanics all day, but he made all the plays when he had to. I didn't like some of his decisions, but if they ended up working I can't argue. Wasn't the story the whole post-season about "Well focus on Henry because Coker can't throw"? He lit Michigan State up. He didn't dismantle Clemson and Howard being open helped, but he still made a lot of plays. (And give credit where it's due, some QBs couldn't hit or read an open target like that)
So he may not be an NFL QB with great technique, but he was definitely the leader of our offense and he did everything they needed him to do to win a championship.

Just because you choose to not believe the facts that I presented, doesn't mean that I made no point. Not my fault you are hard of comprehension.
You said that no one knew we had a star freshman wideout, and I said that Ridley had 1000 yards. My point being that your comment was assanine.
You said that he was average all year, and I said that he was good to great most of the year. That is a fact. Look at the stats.
I said that our Oline was a big problem. My point is that he didn't have the luxury of a good pass blocking o line like previous QBs. He took sacks but he also scrambled for many clutch plays when he could have thrown it away. He also made some insane throws while a defender was literally in his lap.

You say this like it's a fact when it is absolute, pure speculation.

the ol' "he was only good because of the talent around him!!1" argument. Not a strong argument, bro.

Alabama will never win an NC with him at QB.
I never said he will start, I just said that he will play, as in he will make a roster. Would it really surprise you if he did start a game or two? Look at some of the NFL QBs that started this year. He at least has a fighting change based on his size and arm strength alone

IVE BEEN CRITICAL OF COKER. i still think rightfully so.
HOWEVER!
i do believe after all is said and done. we have to go all the way back to jay barker to find a bama qb with as much heart and sheer want it attitude.
congratulations jake coker, you rose above the criticism and will live forever in alabama football lore.
