Of the lower tier SEC teams, what are their season expectations?

What are they playing for? They never make the SEC championship games and sometimes finish with a losing record. Is it the chance they'll make a bowl game or somehow have a fluke win against a rated team that keeps them going?
I'm not saying this is a bad thing. One wouldn't go into the season with false expectations of a championship or undefeated season. Every win would be something to celebrate, every loss something which wasn't unexpected.
Could make for a more enjoyable season.

I can speak for all of Ole Miss when I say we had 0 expectations going into the season so this year definitely has not hurt at all.
It's been a really REALLY fun ride so far.
What are we playing for? A music city bowl berth! Who doesn't want to go to Nashville for an exhilarating game????

At South Carolina ... if the Internet were not anonamous we would track you down, drag you to the nearest Sonic, tar and feather your arse and throw a beatin' on you for even suggesting this "lower tier" thing.
You endeavor to be champions at everything you do or else you quit doing it - you get the frick outta the way and let others have their crack and being winners.
The beauty of college football is that with each season comes new expectations and new hopes. We dick ride our programs, all of us do, ever fan from every program ... because it is human nature to do so. Doesn't matter whether it is a football team or the business you make yourself a part of or a your immediate family ... you wanna contribute and be part of a winner. Not the runner-up, not a mere participant, but a winner. And it's been that way since the evolution of man began ... hell, it's part of Darwin's theory, part of God's plan, part of human nature.
At least it used to be that way in America before this millennial generation came along.
So no - it's not about just finishing with a winning record. It's about winning it all. Anything less is a disappointment and you use it to motivate to do better the next year.
This goes to my theory that the fans, we fans, are the heart of the programs. We're not the brains ... that belongs to the ADs and Coaches. We're not the limbs or the body ... that belongs to the players. But we are the heart, we are what motivates the rest of the body to endeavor towards championships.
Anyway, that's my rah rah speech for the day.

Some Saturdays I really have to stop, give pause and ask myself this very question.

I've actually thought about this very question, but from the other point of view. I've always wondered if fans of teams like Alabama are just disappointed when they don't when the Natty.
It's like here in California, it seems like half of the USC fans have just given up and don't care about the season/team anymore, while UCLA fans are still really excited even though they have comparable teams.
Not saying I wouldn't love to have a national championship in my lifetime, but I also wonder if I would be disappointed more often than not being a fan of an elite team.

This is the perfect question for an Ole Miss and Arky fan.

Our offensive coordinator seems to think we're playing for a high draft pick.

I mean, let's pretend for a second that you watch other sports. What do you watch for in those sports? I'm assuming you don't exclusively cheer for potential title winners in every sport.

I was in the Coliseum Saturday night for the Arizona game. Pretty amazing atmosphere IMO. USC also looks to be improving A LOT.

You're not really a Gamecock fan ... you're an alter.
Wanna know how I know?

As I look longingly at the ACC, I note that North Carolina is 8-1, having won eight straight after losing to South Carolina in Charlotte. UK beat USC in CoSCar.
Would we, as a basketball school, be that successful in the ACC this year? One has to think so.
Instead, we're enjoying another year in the meat grinder, hoping to upset Vandy in Nashville for a shot at a toilet bowl. UNC is even ranked and is looking forward to a more glamorous bowl game where they'll get their shite pushed in by any team from the other four P5 conferences.
We get our shite pushed in on the regular in the SEC. Wouldn't mind being in the ACC if the money was the same.

ULM......fire Berry
Berry isn't a bad coach, the football budget is among the lowest, if not the lowest, in the nation. And if I'm not mistaken, he's the lowest paid @ about $360k a year.
Let's just say that ULM doesn't place high priority on it's football program.

Trust me I know. I go to ULM and I'm involved with the ULM football team (not a player). But I'd be surprised if he's back next year but with how poor the football department is, they might keep him. Great guy though and it's been a very rough year here.

When Bama is not winning Natty's we fall back on sec championships, and wins over Auburn and UT.
When we aren't doing any of those we fire Shula and hire Saban.
