I had the option last year to continue the season tickets I shared with a buddy of mine. I declined, with the reasoning that I"m not going to give money to an athletic department with enough money to pay for a superior product, butf does not.

The only reason why our school accepts mediocre athletic standards is because WE allow them to. As alumni and other Aggie fans, we allow this to continue by blindly supporting the team no matter what they do. Quit in the middle of a game, then have a record number of fans in the stands the next week. In order for this mediocrity to stop, Aggies must demand more from our university. If the product is not up to par, don't pay for it. We wouldn't accept such poor quality from a restaurant, clothing store, etc, so why do we accept it from the most expensive product we consume?

Do your part, accept nothing less than the best from Aggie athletics. If they aren't willing to pay for it, why the hell should we?

Even after the abortion yesterday, it's too early for this level of melt.

This year is an extension of the past two seasons. We should have won a championship with Johnny and Mike Evans. We had the best offensive line in aggie football history, for Christ sakes!

I do

Our athletic program need money to have the facilities and coaches it needs. Without that we will definitely stay mediocre

Yes. This is a ridiculous melt in the context of our football team.

I just don't fricking care. It's a game. I'm never going to quit watching. I don't personally buy season tickets, but that's because I work 70+ hours a week and when I'm not doing that I hunt and fish, and just generally have better things to do then worry about something this stupid.

I support the program, and that isn't ever changing. Period. I don't live and die by their success, because I genuinely believe that 95% of the players on the roster should put their education first and learn to become men under the football program. Sumlin has a job to do and spav should probably be fired, but we will never know the full story so who gives a shite.

This is a melt that is simply unnecessary.

You aren't wrong, we are blindly loyal. Look at the stands at a Texas game or a Bama game back in the early-2000s. Look at USC and Miami. Most fanbases don't show up like we do when the team isn't good. I mean, we routinely sold out games in the FRAN era. We packed that place for an 11 AM game in 2008 for christs sake.

That being said, bad attendance doesn't do much unless it is so bad people actually stop buying season tix instead of just not showing up. At that point you're being counterproductive by hurting the program.

People who disagree with this post are the problem. There's a reason we aren't a powerhouse and haven't won a natty in nearly a century. It's bc people tolerate mediocrity. It's what seperates good from great. Always has and always will.

Aggies are too caught up in loyalty that they don't even realize what they're supporting anymore. Sad thing is I had this typed before I even saw your post but since you're a prime example I'm gunna use it

I don't agree with not supporting them financially but I agree with the overarching message

I should add that I also will always support this program and am not criticizing you for that but my level of support depends on the amount of dedication I'm seeing out of the AD to put a product on this field that I believe is acceptable.

I agree we are too loyal, but it doesn't matter how fans like us react. It matters how much the 50 or so families who really pay the athletic bills react, and most of them are made up of older Ags who were in school during the dark 50s, 60s and early 70s. They call the shots and to them this is great relatively speaking.

We have a unique fanbase in the the majority is fairly young since we didn't explode as a school until the 80s but a very small percentage of old Ags from a different era have all the money.

I want to win, but I don't condition my support on being a "powerhouse" or winning a national championship. And I'm not going to quit giving money to the program because of that fact.

I would bet anything that if you separate the people like me vs the people like you, you would see an age difference, different career/professional background, and in general people in different phases in their life. That's not a nock on you, I'm just saying I've been where you are and its a complete waste of time.

Something like 80% of the annual AD donations come from about 40-50 people. It's crazy.

My dad is friends with one of the bigger donors (top 100 priority points and sits in one of the smaller suites) and they definitely hold "secret" events and meetings about decisions in the AD.

Same. As much as I love me some Aggie football and hope they win every game, at the end of the day I support A&M athletics because it makes me happy and it's a part of the fabric of my personality. Even if they lost every game, I'd watch and try to go to games. It's my alma mater. It's my family's hometown. It's my wife's and dad's school.

I don't buy season tickets mainly because I don't have the budget for it and even if I did, I doubt I could commit to going to every game unless I were a CStat resident.

Maybe I'm part of the problem because I'm there through thick and thin, but honestly I'm that way with all my sports teams. A&M's results just means a little more to me personally, but at the end of the day, it's just a game that allows us to build pageantry around it and celebrate the school.

I've read your post a couple of times. Help me understand your premise. Are you saying that our problem is that we are unwilling to spend enough money on the football program?

No, I'm saying we, as consumers, spend too much money on our program when the athletic department is unwilling or too inept to spend the money they do wisely. We, as a program, have spent a hell of a lot of money, but we don't have shite to show for it. So until the athletic department proves they can use the ridiculous amount of money they do have intelligently, we as fans should stop giving them money to frick it all off with.

Yeah it's a game, that people get paid good money to coach and scholarships to play.

So you do care? I'm confused.

I don't live and die by their success either, but I get sick and tired of seeing shite on the field. I am an alum and former student/athlete, so maybe I take it more seriously than I should, but I'd be embarrassed to display anything that wasn't my best to the people who payed for my education that I'm supposed to be representing.
