Landshark D getting to the QB...

We only have 3 freaking sacks this year, tied for dead last in the SEC. The DE's need to start getting there and making plays. This was supposed to be one of the best DLine in the country, not just the SEC. It's time they step up and prove it. I think playing a young OLine lacking in depth sets up for us to get the ball rolling in that category.
On the bright side, we are much better against the run this year. DJ Jones making a difference as well as a healthy Woody Hamilton.

Marquis Haynes has been disappointing thus far. Sophomore slump.

You guys haven't been watching the games. Hard to get sacks when you hardly ever blitz. 4 on 5 sometimes 3 on 5. Also name how many passes over 25+ yards has been completed on our defense. I can't think of one. Teams are throwing the ball underneath quickly. We aren't giving up big plays.

We also are a top five defensive unit in turnovers with 10 I think. And probably have one of the most points scored by a defense. The DL is doing its job.

Good points. Didn't think about the 25+ yard plays. Just thinking that we should have more than 3 sacks through 4 games.

I'm still underwhelmed by the defense so far.

We have 29 TFLs thru 4 games, 2 of which were conference games and we lead the SECw in TO margin.. Chill.

Go figure... Gross gets hurt for year and our run defense improves.

Nothing to do with DJ Jones or Breeland.

I'm not worried about sacks. How many Int's do we have due to pressure? I'll take those over sacks all day.

I agree. Now if we just quit dropping a lot of the easy ones. We had 2 easy ones we missed vs Bama and at least 2 easy ones we missed vs Vandy. We have to make those plays.

Explain.

I have had to watch every game online so I haven't seen it very clearly, but I thought the run D improved because Breeland and DJ Jones were stuffing it up

He impressed me by pounding Coker into the dirt resulting in an int.

I watched the game again last night. Our defense was saltier than I thought at the time. We did a great job on run defense up the middle. Their running backs struggled to get positive gains all night, except for Webb's one big run.
We forced several 3-and-outs.
Our defense got a bit ragged in the second half with too many penalties giving Vandy first downs.
Other than that, the only thing we did poorly was our coverage of the tight end on a few occasions. The tight end beat Hilton a few times when he was playing man-to-man. It seems to me that we're playing more man-to-man this year, but I recall we had better results last year with quarters coverage or shallow zones. This allows our secondary to keep their eyes in the backfield and break on the ball.
This is just an impression. I didn't chart coverages play by play.

Emergency valve options are becoming the first read for other teams and its a result of our DLine. we are playing so much zone, the dink and dunk has been the most successful.

Are we? Those TE catches against Vandy looked to be against M2M coverage.

Serious question, does Ole Miss perceive R. Nkemdiche as the absolutely dominating force that the media does?
When I watch him, he clearly is a good player and makes plays (even if not on stats) that support it. I just haven't been able to tell if he is consistently a dominating force that warrants the consensus top 1/2 NFL pick status he has been given
I can't tell and trust what the fans who watch all his snaps say more than my casual interest in OM games.
** I at this point believe that grabbing Denzel has been a bigger "steal" than grabbing Robert. Perhaps not in actual production but in terms of playing beyond what you had hoped for

He consistently eats up two blockers, which I feel to be his biggest asset.
He does leave some things to be desired. He is a poor tackler and, on occasion, has taken plays off.
The Alabama game two weeks ago, however, he was the best football player on the field.
