Ole Miss. Everyone expects Ole Miss to suck next year since we'll be losing so many players but we've got a lot of young talent and will be pretty good (although probably not playoff caliber).
Georgia will jump us with a win over Tenn probably. Then the question is whether they drop Tenn below us. If it's a close loss they might not.

The nightmare scenario for us is if BYU goes unbeaten and then is upset in the Big 12 championship game. They'll probably put a 12-1 BYU in and leave out the #4 SEC team.
Big 10: 4
Notre Dame
Big 12: 1
ACC: 1
G5: 1

That leaves a max of 4 SEC teams. Then we'll have to worry about 2nd place ACC team (assuming SMU & Miami win out).

The nightmare scenario is BYU finishes undefeated then is upset in the Big 12 championship game.

The Big 10 scheduling is a joke. There are only 4 good teams. OSU plays the other 3 but they don't play each other. Meanwhile the good SEC teams all play each other. Penn State is overrated. Indiana has looked great but has beaten only 1 team with a winning record (5-4 Nebraska).

(I refused to spend anytime thinking about playoff scenarios until after yesterday's game.)

If Texas beats A&M and Georgia beats Tenn, then it will be Texas, Tenn, Bama, Georgia and Ole Miss vyiing for a max of 4, maybe 3 spots. If Aggies win maybe we'll jump Texas, which won't have any Top 25 wins. But we will have the worst loss by far.

Tl'dr I think we still need help. I'm not assuming a Florida win, BTW. That will be a tough game assuming Lagway is back.

ETA: We should be South Carolina's biggest fans.

We have played two good defenses with really good defensive lines. He doesn't have a lot of time, a lot of his throws are at least a little bit hurried, and the receivers he's throwing to are no longer 5-10 yards open like they were against some of the cupcakes.

I'm not saying they're in fact better but we're 6 games into the season so resume has to count for something.

Aggies have a good case for being ranked ahead of Ole Miss and LSU tbh.
I guess Perkins is just going to be the 2024 version of Isaac Gross. Too small to play the position but just makes play after play.
The defense played really well. Really good job keeping their QB contained. Perkins played great especially.

Our next QB is already on the roster.
Lane will probably spend the week scheming how to get Juice a couple of TDs just to troll USCe fans.
As much as I'd enjoy the melt if LSU loses this weekend, we really need them to be highly ranked when we go to Baton Rouge.

I hope LSU wins. We're really going to be leaning on them as a quality win.
Our pass defense was bad on 3 MTSU drives in the middle of the game. The defense stiffened before giving up TDs (although MTSU got gypped out of one TD).

If you didn't watch the game you probably didn't know this, though. The reason for that is that Ole Miss posters have not been melting about it, unlike some other fan base that has been melting for 3 days about their run defense against an FCS school.

I didn't say OM will win. Just correcting OP who said it is a home game.

SOS could bite us come selection time, especially if Oklahoma falls off a cliff (which seems possible after that offensive showing against Houston).
Yeah I had my season rankings mixed up. 2009 we started so high based on the people returning from the 2008 team.
We'll win because WF's defense is bad and they just lost to a bad Virginia team at home, but let's just hope history doesn't repeat itself: our #6 2008 team's season started going off the rails with an upset loss @Wake followed two weeks later by an upset loss @South Carolina.

Ole Miss is also a road game, not a home game.
