I figured as much. Even though BG is super close to Nashville

The bottom line is that football attendance patterns are changing. I wonder what it'll be like in 10 years?
I think it's bottomed out about as much as it will. We've reached the point where every game is televised but stadiums are (usually) still packed. There's no real substitute for being in that environment.
It's impacting away/neutral games the most because there's an easier and cheaper alternative.

Wow. Bowling Green, KY is close to Nashville, but not Bowling Green the team we are playing.

This is OBCs fair well tour. Price should be no object.
USCe don't care.

All points made above are valid.
If the weather is nice, I predict there will be a sizable walk up crowd. I'll wait until after the game to render final judgment on this issue.
UNC football fans traditionally are fickle. There is a smallish core of hard core football fans, with the remaining fans ready only to jump on the bandwagon if we win. I'll be there in a block of 30 or so of us from Atlanta.

Charlotte had horrible records for hosting the prestigious almost competive conference championship...they have to give away tix...who the hell wants to watch mediocre CG?
The SEC blows them away and they know it. North Carowhinna doesnt do crap...except cheat and they arent good at that. They are waiting for December but not for some CCG....its basketball.
Hope USC stomps dog piss out of them.

It's a Thursday night game. Which suck arse to go to.
This.
I think any neutral site Thursday night game would have a ton of trouble selling out.

Probably about all the UNC stadium holds. UNC is in the ACC.

I doubt UNC fans even know that they start football this week. More fans are looking forward to midnight madness.

That sounds terrible. You want to work a full-day, get into 5:00 traffic, and make it just in time for a game (maybe?)
This early start time is even affecting those who aren't attending the game.
Living in DC, it means I have to leave work almost 2 hours early to ensure I'll beat traffic and get to a bar in time for the beginning of the game.
I really wanted to go to this game but couldn't justify taking 2 days off of work to go to freaking Charlotte for a game we're not even guaranteed to win. I'm getting real tired of Thursday night openers. This game would be electric on a Saturday night at BOA.

We sold our allotment. This is a Thursday night neutral site game. It could've been worse.

It would suck to have a neutral site Thursday night game. Who was the dumbass who thought that up?
ESPN owed it to Charlotte .... ESPN got the SEC to put the pressure on SC. The ACC and UNC was all for it because they owe us two home games and this is counting against one of those.
Charlotte is actually much closer to Columbia than to the RTP.

For real, I was talking to a law school friend (UNC grad) this week. He asked why I was skipping class and I said for the football game. He asked who we were playing..... after I said UNC he legitimately said "Oh I hate UNC football, I only cheer for basketball."
That's why I don't like the series with them as much. They don't care. I want to play someone OOC who's fans give a shite.

I'm going. Not really excited. Only going because I was invited by some longtime UNC friends.
Dropped $1,000 on club level seats plus several hundred more for two nights in a downtown Charlotte hotel. That's just more than most people are willing -- or able -- to spend.
I hate the neutral site games. Save those for the conference championship and bowl games. Even the first round of the playoff should be at the home venue of the top two seeds.
As to the timing, not only is it a midweek game starting at the middle of rush hour, but being midweek before a holiday weekend makes it worse. People are already planning to travel or spend time with family. It makes them even less likely to take time off work to travel to a generic place like Charlotte.
The last time we played in Charlotte (against ECU), the atmosphere was boring as hell (great game, but boring venue). They didn't even restripe the field from the NFL preaseason. The endzones all said Carolina Panthers. If Charlotte wants to make money of Gamecock fans, then they need to show a little give a damn. Otherwise, it's no better than an invite to the Belk Bowl.
