Soon enough you will. We're in the early stages of our engineering program. Once that gets humming you'll see those rise too.

The fact that our engineering program is still in its nymph stage, and we don't have a medical school... We fair pretty well in academics.

I think SATs are more impressive then GPAs these days. I live in Forsyth/Alpharetta and I can't tell you how many parents will say "well my kid has a 4.# GPA but didn't do well on the SATs because they just don't test well."

Then how did they get a 4.# GPA if they don't test well? It seems like a 3.0 type student in 2000 is now a 3.9 student in 2015 and no smarter.

I think the HOPE has done wonders for keeping kids in Georgia and really helped out the state schools. I do think grade inflation is pretty high around here.

So it's good to see at least the SAT scores of new students at UGA are higher as well, it'd be a meh if it was just GPA scores are higher. HOPE is doing as it was intended.

Smart of UGA to have an engineering school because honestly, while GT reigns supreme nationally if not internationally with it's engineering programs there are a lot of people like me who wouldn't want their kids in downtown Atlanta. GT would do well to have a second state campus imho and UGA is smart to encroach on them.

I'm sure it's a backup for a lot of kids applying, especially out of state.

It's been a popular back-up plan for a lot of the kids from Virginia that want to go to UVA. It's not a particularly safe back up anymore. Standards are still not what UVA's are, but getting into Georgia out-of-state isn't a safe bet for that fringe tier of student.

The one I have seen here in Georgia is how a kid can apply to Bama and Auburn and get letters back within the week. Apply to Georgia and not here anything for months.

Flip that around, I work with guys from Alabama and Florida, they see the reverse for their kids. Georgia responds immediately, in state school not so much.

Schools really seem to love those out of state kid$.

And at 40-45k for out of state, it makes sense why more kids go on the hope to the ungs, Kennesaw and all those colleges south of atlanta. Because the reality is, and I work at GA's largest employer, a state school is a state school, unless it's GT or uva, so how do you justify those 160k out of state educations over a 40k one?

Amen. This is one of the most annoying cliches.

It's the academic bullshite equivalent of saying a high school recruit runs a 4.30 40.

because the dozen or so teachers in Atlanta that were fired/arrested for grade fixing are just the tip of the iceberg.

It was needed. Malcolm Mitchell got in and could barely read

quote:

Mitchell confessed that when he started college he could only read at about a junior high level, and it bothered him. So he started putting as much effort into his reading game as his football game.

But everyone in state just automatically gets it? (if you meet the standards)

Ummm no.

You still have to apply and get accepted to school. Those qualifications are only talking about your eligibility for HOPE. It's not like if you have a 3.3 average in HS you get an automatic ride to any college in state you want. First thing above all else, you have to apply and get admitted to the school just like anybody else would. Then IF you get in, you may be eligible for HOPE.

If you qualify for Hope, you are more than likely going to qualify for college in Georgia. only reason they wouldnt, is if their test scores were abysmal
