Wait....Full tuition paid if you had a 3.33 in HS?! While being able to use the 5.0 scale?!
I'm not sure what GA rules are on the 5.0. I don't remember anyone getting above a 4.0 from my HS in the early 2000s. A lot of us would have averages of like 115 in AP courses, but it didn't get us above 4.0.

No you have to keep the 3.33 in college. Actually the standard is probably higher as regards to what you need in high school to qualify...I think I was grandfathered in.

But everyone in state just automatically gets it? (if you meet the standards)

yea he, *Dawg in Beaumont, is right, the state and metro ATL have had massive population growth, Gwinnett was the fastest growing county in the nation for a few years. Topping that with easy tuition money and not very high acceptance standards led to a "U" boom in the state. It also has led to a number of kids who are better suited for Hair salon college and Muffler welding school to sign up at UGA and so forth, that misplacement has also been a factor.

Just looked it up...you get 90% covered(the HOPE scholarship) if you graduate from a Georgia high school with a 3.0. You get 100% covered(the Zell Miller scholarship) if you graduate with a 3.7.
To keep the HOPE in college you have to stay over 3.0. To keep the ZM you have to stay over 3.3.

Athens. I put forth negative effort, I don't think I ever did any homework or papers. I'd just show up and take tests.

Wow! Talk about a steal. That is completely crazy to me....The only thing we have close to that is Bright Flight...which is only given based off the ACT...and that doesn't even come close to total tuition costs.

At least y'all have something. I'm pretty sure AL and MS are the only Southern states without some kind of state subsidized tuition coverage. Residents of these respective states pay for kids in OTHER states to go to college, thanks to opposition to education lotteries.

admittance rate of 52 percent of all applicants
So, about 11,400 applicants were accepted, but only 5,300 of them chose UGa? I guess the other 6,100 or so had UGa as a backup plan?

I'm sure it's a backup for a lot of kids applying, especially out of state.

The curious thing about UGA is enrollment, since the HOPE scholarship came into play 1993ish, is only up around 5k students.
But thanks to moving that money around, they have built like 25 new buildings.
The downside is, the days of having REAL rednecks at UGA has long since gone.

Yankees move into ATL to take top jobs and then beat out GA raised kids for a free ride at UGA. I don't have a problem with yanks but many of them are corporatists. I have a problem with corporatism...it's not southern...and it's evil

Numbers very similar to any other elite public university.Michigan accepted over 13k and 6k enrolled.
I imagine UNC,UF and UVA are somewhat the same.

33 is a high ACT score. Most large research universities don't really care about your GPA as long as your standardized test scores are high. GPA is so subjective and relative to educational quality at your high school whereas standardized tests are just that... standardized.
For instance, I went to a very large high school (3,500 students) and graduated with about 800 classmates. I had a 3.9 GPA but still was nowhere near the top 10% of my class. I made a 2000 on the SAT and had a 33 ACT.
Those are near valedictorian numbers at most rural high schools in SC but at my large suburban high school I was just an above average student.. Not exceptional.
