Been saying Bateman for at least two years now. Kid won't disappoint.

Supposedly very fast and he was getting reps at WR in the spring.

Wonder where Bateman could have been if he would have stayed with the Quaterbacks all spring.

If he's in the Top 2 now you'd have to think he would be the clear cut #1 if he had practiced their exclusively all Spring.

Maybe the time at WR motivated him that little extra bit needed or maybe it helped him by learning the receiver routes and now knows where to throw the WR open.

It's a joke guys. Saban said "he is very athletic" 3 or 4 times in the span of a paragraph. I'm mocking Saban.

I'm convinced Bateman will be one of the two guys that plays first game. Just not sure who the other will be. Guess I'll go with Coker/Bateman rotation with Morris as the back up to those two guys. The fact that Bateman can run really gives him a big edge over a guy like Morris all else being close to equal.

It sounds like Cooper Bateman may actually win the starting QB job.
This is crazy. I've legitimately thought/heard all five guys names as the likely starter in the span of a few weeks.
First I thought is was clearly a Coker/Cornwell battle and that Cornwell would win it.
Then it sounded like Barnett was outplaying everybody and that he might legitimately win it. Never was convinced that was a possibility but still heard it a lot.
Then all of the sudden Alec "the Alex" Morris was leading the race, Coker was trying to catch him and Cornwell was all of the sudden shite.
Then it was back to Coker is going to be the guy after all.
Now we are hearing Cooper Bateman has risen from the dead and may be the starter.
Cannot remember a QB race like this at Alabama ever.

Key word here. We've got a lot who could conceivably play, but, it would some, none who have just looked like "Wow!" at practice.

quote:we have seen like 1% of practice. wowing at practice totally depends on the situation, and who they are going against. if you mean a spring game, we could do like auburn to get their fanbase drinking the cool aid and let the 1s on offense beat up on their special ed 2s (although we would have to use the scout team to find guys as bad as their 2s). i trust saban and kiffin to pick the right guy, and if somebody goes down at least we will have numerous players of a similar level

I'm not talking about "wowing" us. I'm talking about wowing the staff. No one has just grabbed the job b/c the staff feels like they took it. They're waiting on someone to do that and it seems are likely to have to choose a QB by default. Not saying they won't prove to be a gamer and tear it up on Saturdays, but none of them have just taken the job yet.

I heard on the radio this week that someone at practice said Rashaan Evans was chasing Bateman out of the pocket and that Evans couldn't catch him. To me, that means Bateman is pretty fast.

Maybe they are all just grabbing the bull by the horns equally and its hard to tell who is grabbing the bull by the horns the hardest?

quote:bateman is 6'3" 220 and runs a 4.5. not surprising he got a look at wr. probably would not be a bad idea to make all the qbs go run some routes so they can see what the WR sees
To me, that means Bateman is pretty fast

Bateman's Private coach/mentor told one of the AL.com guys (John Talty) that at one point during his time at Alabama, Bateman tested out as one of the 10 fastest players on the team.
quote:
The fact Saban would move a quarterback to receiver speaks to Bateman's athleticism. Bateman has run a 4.5 40-yard dash, can squat 425 pounds and at one point was one of the 10 fastest players on Alabama's roster, according to Cate. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback is widely regarded as the most athletic of the five players competing for the starting quarterback job.
The article goes on to say that after the Spring Saban met with Bateman and told him some of the things that he needed to work on as a QB.
Apparently the kid is a hard worker and is showing significant improvement, so if these things are true and not urban legend, then hopefully we at least have a Bateman package (other than FG's & PAT's) to throw out there, even if he doesn't ultimately win the job.
Meet Cooper Bateman
