It absolutely feels different when all members are pretty much treated as equals, sharing is equal and continued membership isn't coerced. I'll be the first to acknowledge that A&M was one of the three schools to demand/accept a greater portion of revenue to stay in the Big12.......but that always felt dirty. It feels like a family when Vandy gets the same conference pay out as Bama. $$$ or lack of $$$ isn't used as a significant competitive advantage. I absolutely love the fact that Vandy will soon be making more than our friends in Austin.
It also helps that many schools are the single representative of their state in the country's most respected conference......and that position is protected by its members. So yes.....it feels natural to root for others schools against non-members.

Keep in mind, TAMU was in the SIAA before they joined the SWC. In theory they returned home, not joined for the first time.
That's a bit of a stretch.
The SWC formed in 1914. Also, 72 schools can lay claim to having been members of the SIAA. Seventy-two.

Luckily, we don't have to concern ourselves with anything LSU does outside of college athletics. You're a community college.

Yeah but look at the dates. there are the really adopter group and all those who joined after the early adopters had departed for the socon and then the SEC. Of the early "core"
Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, UNC, Sewanee, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas, Tulane, Tennessee, VPI (Va Tech), Trinity (Duke), and TAMU all wound up in the ACC / SEC / SWC group.
Cumberland, Mercer, Nashville, Rhodes, Eastern Kentucky, Davidson, Furman, and Southern did not make the next cut.
All the rest of those 72 came after most of this first group had already had a foot out of the door of the SIAA. Also, the SIAA was formed in Nashville in 1893 even before the Western Conference (the current B1G) formed. in addition, UK had the first football team in the current SEC (about a decade before all the rest) and the guy from Vanderbilt who created the SIAA was a native Kentuckian.

I've always rooted for everyone in the Big 12 outside of Missouri, but really only in the big 2.5 sports. I don't care at all who wins the freaking softball or golf championship.

You can make a distinction with the Southern Conference, but making an SEC "home" claim based on the SIAA is kinda silly.
Rollins College, Wofford, Transylvania, etc were all SIAA much longer than A&M. 72 schools were a part of it at one point or another.
Its kind of like making a point about Phillips College belonging in the Big 12, since they were in the SWC a couple of years pre WWI. Its actually a stronger one than the post I'm referring to.

Again, for the cheap seats, if you were one of the 72 who arrived late, you were not the core of the SIAA. You were a replacement for a core team that had already left. The SoCon still exists today and its members have been in much longer than the teams that left like Alabama and Auburn.
I will go out on a limb here and say Alabama and Auburn have been more know in college football than current SoCon teams even tho they left the conference what, like 75 years ago?

Just because you and Mizzou were not in the original SIAA club or the original SoCon club does not mean you have to get all bent out of shape about it. You are in the club now so chill out man.

A&M loves rooting for Texas. A&M knows that the Longhorns are the acknowledged leaders of our great state, and since they don't win their own, they love to celebrate our championships.

You mean Vince's championship. All the rest are so old we might as well make some up if we are jealous. Oh yeah, we did.

I don't really care how other SEC teams do, as far as it not affecting Mizzou at least. I do have a soft spot for Vandy..and Kentucky football, but that is about it.
I still hope the Big 8 schools minus kansas and Oklahoma do well, mostly due to family and friends going to those schools.

Yes and no as far as cheering on conference teams. Most of the time I'm all for the conference to kick arse and take names. Its the old saying of "Me against my brother. Me and my brother against my cousin. Me, my brother, and my cousin against the world."
That having been said watching the rest of the SEC West (except for the Aggies) lose their bowl games was a treat to watch. After spending a few years getting mocked while we wandered in the desert so to speak it was nice to have the tables turned.

Yeah I don't root for the SEC anymore in anything. Bobby Petrino ate my soul.
