Arkansas has an absolutely brutal schedule, tougher than ours was last year. If they win 9 games, then I will applaud Bert and his team.

Our game in Knoxville is gonna be epic.

Tennessee has the best chance of their fan base imploding after they start the season 2-4.

Your defensive ranking is wrong. We had a top 10 D in the country last year and we return 8 starters. Our seconday was one of the better ones in the SEC and we return everybody

Top 10 and one of the best secondaries? Here are some conference defense stats:
Passing Yards Allowed/Attempt
1. Mizzou 5.9
14. Arkansas 8.5
Passing Yards Allowed per Game
2. Mizzou 194.2
12. Arkansas 244.4
Total Defense yards/game
1. Mizzou 323.3
7. Arkansas 381.5
Yards Allowed per play
1. Mizzou 4.54
9. Arkansas 5.90

I'm not sure Arkansas was a top 10 defense in the SEC. cfbstats.com

I think it's hard to judge our defense because we started off bad last year. I recently watched our games again and at the start of the season our secondary looked lost. Not surprising as it was our DC's first year.

The defense that shut out LSU and OM and held Texas to 59 total yards of offense isn't the same one that gave up 28 points to Texas Tech earlier in the season. Either our defense improved or Texas Tech was light years ahead of LSU and OM (not the case).

Not to take away anything from Mizzou's defense because they had one of the best and were better than ours. Just saying it's hard to judge ours by stats alone because we got off to a really slow start.

I really can't argue with Jones being ranked below the other coaches at this point. I'm not sold on his coaching ability yet, but to be fair, he's had a dumpster fire to work with so far.

Exactly why I wonder why you question Hugh Freeze. His dumpster fire was incredibly worse than Jones, with no disrespect to Jones's shitty situation .

Freeze has some areas of improvement come gameday calls, but that's to be expected. 2-10 to 9-4(the unluckiest of play from 10-3) in three seasons and yet most have him ranked 3-4th on this list.

Let's be real. You can't put Jones or Bert above Freeze or Pinkel. In time? Maybe, but Bert is easily the worst of those four coaches currently

That's very debatable, no disrespect to Freeze's shitty situation.

Plus, Freeze took over a 2-10 team and in year one had more SEC wins(3 with last second losses to Vandy/LSU/A&M) than Bert, who took over a 4-8 team that had plenty of talent(preseason top 10 that year), has in both his years at Arky combined.

(The reasoning is that no one from East will win conference anyway. If Ole Miss or Arkansas can win the West then they will be good enough to win the conference. If Kelly steps up for Ole Miss then they are in the running. Arkansas has to go to Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee and LSU. They lose a home game by playing A&M in Dallas. They may not win any of those games....)

Well, everything is debatable, but that roster relied on all freshman and sophomores, with a new QB, 160lb RB, one WR, an OL that started a walk-on straight out of HS, a DL that had consisted of 2/4 DE's playing their first year on defense(switched from TE), a freshman walk-on starting CB, less than 50 scholarship players, etc. I don't know the logistics of UT's, but I just know that I never want to experience that depleted of a roster...we're still struggling to fill get a full roster sorted out.

I would tend to think that the East teams (UT and Mizzou) have a better shot to win the SEC, simply because the East is weaker. It would be far easier to win the East than the West which is much more competitive. From there, it's only one upset win away. I would think winning a weaker division than pulling one upset is easier than winning a brutally hard division and winning as the favorite in the CG.

At one time after the defections from Fulmer/Kiffin players...Dooley was down to 69 scholarship players. He went one full class without recruiting any OL...by the time Jones took over, there was no depth and the team was loaded with players not fast or strong enough to be starters in the SEC.
