I'm all for trade school and am well-aware the college degree is inflated. that doesn't mean the state's flagship should be dealt a library like Middleton
eta: the kids gettings degrees from trade school are more often than not better off than attending Southern, Grambling, Nicholls, Mcneese, Northwestern State, etc...

Don't we already have free community colleges? I mean if you're a minority or a poor that is.

absolutely outrageous
the premise of community colleges is that they're ALREADY affordable

Agreed...poor minorities have all the luck.

With admission levels that low y'all probably have a large percentage of your students that should be in comunity college anyway.

Yes, that's exactly what I was implying.
I'm not going to engage you in this debate because your comment alone tells me all I need to know.

I don't mean it in that sense. The point is that community colleges are around because of their affordability.
Go into something like welding and instrumentation, get a small loan, and get out with a high 5, probably even 6-figure job. Not everyone needs a college degree. If you told me the free tuition would go to a trade, then I'm all for it. I'm not all for free tuition to bring more mass comm and political science degrees to the workforce
There's so many dynamics to this topic to generalize that I don't think black minorities are at a disadvantage and lack sympathy. It's not these kids faults the education system let them down and had difficult upbringings. We could honestly go all day on how fricked up the department of education and teachers unions are, the lack of the best and brightest going into the field, performance based pay, the shitty curriculum, etc...free tuition just isn't the answer

More like after the first year but that doesn't really diminish the problem. Because of those ridiculous in state standards, both schools end up having terrible freshman retention numbers to go along with lower overall student quality numbers due to those kids that can get in due to Ayers who shouldn't be in college at all.

Why you have to add Northwestern? lol Now Nicholls, what do they contribute to anything? In my entire lifetime I can't remember them being good at any sport and the academics can't be better than any of the others.

Sounds like some Bobby Jindal bullshite. Louisiana has some damn nice community colleges (at the BPCC and BRCC, the only two I've seen),

LSU announced a renovation of Middleton last year, but unfortunately they chose not to redo the outside (if that is even possible).
It is not the community colleges that is sucking off LSU because they pull their own weight. It is the fact that we have so many damn 4 year universities in this state.
