If you are basketball coach, would you want to coach at basketball first school or at a school where basketball is 2nd or third fiddle?

Excellent bait. Almost bit.

So Saban would coach at Harvard for 10 Mil a year? I'm sure their boosters could make that happen

Did you get jelly of all the attention Phan has been getting with his talent?

Battle has fricked this up royally.......this is really bad......I am cringing to see who we hire? Who wants it after this fiasco......

The last time I saw and AD botch up a search this badly it was Broyles who agreed to a verbal agreement via phone call with Gillespie to be the next HC.

He then fired Heath, again was fooled by the verbal agreement stuff with Altman and had to resort to a search firm that saw us get pimped by Donovan to hire his boy Pel.

Search firms do not look for the right fit, overlooked up and comer, they are like AAU player with handlers (major coaches).

That would be hard to turn down. I would probably take it in a heartbeat.

@CecilHurt: Not sure who Alabama will get, but the AD has made it clear that whoever it is, he wanted a different guy. So that probably won't help.

Cecil and I are thinking the same thing. Complete fail by the AD in his first real assignment. Hell, he has actually failed in his first two big decisions....keeping Grant last year, and miserably failing at hiring Marshall despite begging for 2 weeks and having 4 million a year at his disposal. You can't make a search so public and targeted to one individual unless you know you can get him.

I was saying this earlier. This move Battle made to get Marshall was the most public effort regarding hiring a new coach that I can remember...and it failed. Every other NCAA coach has heard about it too. Now, whoever is next will feel like the university had to settle for him. It seems an uncomfortable situation.

If the AD has to hire a search firm in the next week or two, the candidate list has hit rock bottom...

Hell I wish we had used a search firm from day one instead of having our AD personally beg for two weeks and get nothing.

As long as Battle doesn't mess up gymnastics his job is safe IMO.

Folks thought Bama messed up when Rich Rods wife did not want to come to Ttown (he had accepted). Bama ended up with a prick that is a great coach anyway.

Michigan and harbrah was pretty obvious, but that actually worked out.

Texas and saban was almost as obvious... Didn't work out.

Eh. At a certain point, when you're in a tax bracket...you're in a tax bracket.

Whoever Bama hires as their coach will know that he wasn't Bama's first choice

So does Alabama have any commits left? This has to be rough waiting this long.

I'm just sad. Not really mad. I never really thought we'd get him. I was pretty hopeful though.
