quote:But Alabama people haven't complained about PBJr.
The idea that Auburn people only complained about Lowder because the school was in shambles is more Bammer revisionist bs. Some Auburn people complained about Lowder for years even when Auburn was ranked much higher academically than what bama was ranked
I understand that Auburn people complained about Lowder (who btw did an awful lot of good things for AU), but no one at UA has ever complained about PBJr and honestly I don't see a reason to complain about him or the BOT for that matter.
Why belly ache, complain, and raise hell when things are running smoothly? Academics and enrollment are on the rise - athletics are competitive, even elite in some sports - facilities are top notch and the one's that aren't are currently experiencing renovations - student housing has seen unpresidented growth - overall campus life including the Greek organzations are seeing monumental growth and restructuring. What is there for anyone at UA to complain about?

They have been allowed to do it so long, by politicians and by media too scared, too cheap, or too homer to challenge it.
It is about a system that is insidious and incestuous, a tradition of unlimited power that trades unfairly on Alabama loyalty.
In the Houndstooth Family, the will of a powerful few becomes the mandate for all. And you can take that - and all the public money that goes into it - to the bank. As long as you know which one.

Who cares?
UAB football was a black hole. Lost $300+ MILLION over the last several years.
Frick that.
UA Board of Trustees doesn't cause UAB fans to not go to games, or "boost" the program.

I'm not familiar with Bryant Jr other than his name, which carries the insinuation of football-first.

Major contributor
One of those people was Bryant. He had made a $10 million contribution toward expansion of Bryant-Denny Stadium in the early 1990s, but structured that gift so it could be used for other purposes if ticket revenues from the new upper deck covered the debt service. Since those revenues reached that level, the money was used to fund non-athletic scholarships, construction of a building to house the UA special collections library, restoration of the Gorgas House, endowing a history lecture program and other non-athletic purposes.
Bryant donated another $10 million for the Crimson Tradition fund. A portion of that was used to expand the north end zone of the stadium, with the rest going to fund the renovation of Foster Auditorium, for non-athletic scholarships and to a relief fund for UA employees affected by the 2011 tornado that ravaged Tuscaloosa, among other things.
quote:
Bryant has made other contributions of undisclosed amounts to UA over the years, funding non-athletic scholarships, the purchase of a radio station, scoreboards for the Alabama baseball and softball teams and to support the Bryant Museum.
Bryant doesn't have much to say about that, and only talked about the two $10 million donations because UA had made them public at the time.
"I don't think anything else is anybody's business," he said.
Paul Bryant Jr.: A legacy of his own

I wish we could ban Auburn sidewalks from attending UAB....
PBJr and the Bama BOT's leadership has been on-point. Academically and athleticaly things have never been better. Record enrollment, record academic metrics, record financial surpluses, expansion and growth everywhere. All athletics are doing very well and they are swinging for the fences onthe basketball front.
UAB has grown from a satellite campus 45 years ago to world renowned medical and research institution with a huge undergrad enrollment. Under the BOT stewardship it is one of the key economic engines for the State of Alabama.

I could not agree more.

I understand that and agree completely from Alabama's point of view.
Look, things are never as simple as everyone would like it to be. Under Bryant jr. Alabama has flourished. He has done a tremendous job with UA. However, I think UAB is justified in saying he has not been nearly as supportive to the campus. The issue is, the board is supposed to treat all universities under its stewardship equally.
If Bryant Jr. had supported UAB athletics, I tend to think it would have been moderately successful. Cannot say for sure because it is only hypothetical.
But more to the point is a specific issue. If at UA, the alumni society leadership had unanimously called on the President to resign, the student body voted no confidence and the faculty voted no confidence, if documents came out showing the President had lied to stakeholders, and the largest media outlet in the state also called him to step down, would he still have a job?

The idea that things at bammer have been so wonderful is also laughable. Bama has usually finished about in the middle of the conference in the all sports standings. Basketball and baseball have been inconsistent at best. The caliber of students bama attracts is basically right in the middle of conference in terms of their high school gpa and act or sat test scores.
Just admit it bammers. Your fan base will go along with any level of corruption. You didn't even complain about the baby bear when Mike Shula was your football coach
Hey Harvey, when did you switch sides?

pretty sure we've won national titles in football, softball, gymnastics, men's golf, and women's golf. Is that considered middle of the conference?
tell us about all the success the auburn athletic department has been having.

Yet they are not equal. They have different mandates, demographics, and purposes they serve. This concept seems to escape you.

You answered your own question. Football had 22 years to build a fanbase and the fact remains hardly anyone in the Birmingham metro area cared enough. This is undeniable. Yet we should put hundreds of millions more into this on the premise of "build it and they will come". Ludicrous.
Have you heard anyone complaining about UAB's success in basketball in the past or even this year relative to the program in Tuscaloosa?

Respectfully disagree. A better timeline would be to look at the past 15 years for UAB. The medical standing has dropped in ranking nationally. The President has cut faculty benefits, making it less likely to keep quality professors. The President attempted to kill the nationally recognized honor's program and stopped construction on new upgades within the business department.
The BoT is taking the heat on this because many believe he would not act without consulting the BoT on all these issues as well as athletics --- although to be fair -- he claims they had no input. The BoT hired him and they are the only ones who can show him the door.
