Bills filed to reinstate football, restructure Board of Trustees
quote:
The second - HB 340, with 42 co-sponsors - proposes a restructuring of the University of Alabama system board of trustees, including having the membership reflect where the campuses are located and decreasing consecutive terms served. The board oversees operations at the University of Alabama, UAB and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
quote:
"I think we've sent a clear message that there's support in the legislature for reform efforts," Williams said, adding that he was "very pleased" with the response.
quote:
All three proposed bills are pending action in the Education Policy committee. Williams said he expects that committee action to take place within the next three weeks.

Auburn loves them some UAB.

Well, at least ours isn't being restructured due to almost being declared a "non-University"

And just when I'm all out of butter for my :kern:

Auburn is more concerned with UAB than they are of their own AUM.

The first two bills should pass. I don't think the third will.
I can only imagine the national headlines if a constitutional amendment ordering a public university to play football, and written by a graduate of a Bible correspondence school, were to pass.
Also, this belongs on the Off-Topic Board.

Why do so many Auburn fans give a single frick about the University of Alabama system?

Probably. And do not really give care much about how UA BoT governs UA, just think it gives UAB and UAH less.
I am not sure how to feel about the legislature getting involved, but apparently at least 63 members of the Alabama House of Representatives care. I think it has a little more than 100 members, so that is pretty significant.
Oh yeah, and the third Bill should definitely not pass.

Southeastern Bible College has an online class that teaches about how God hates Paul Bryant Jr..

"Those board of trustees are so crooked. That's why I hate Alabama" -Auburn bandwagon fan literally said this at work today.

Well, I do not hate Alabama at all. They have a storied athletic program and outstanding university. However, it should not be mutually exclusive to be a UAB/UA fan.
Lowder and Bryant Jr. should go bowling together imo.
I realize now I should have posted this one on the off topic board, it was not meant to flame but it does pertain to UA (satellite included) athletics if Bill Two passes. I thought the fact it was actually introduced in the legislature made it noteworthy, but will not mention it again unless it gets out of committee.
