College World Series Finals: Third Most-Viewed Baseball Game in 2014 and Most-Viewed CWS game since 2009
ESPN’s telecast of the third, and deciding game, of the College World Series Finals – Vanderbilt defeating Virginia 3-2 – averaged a 1.6 US HH rating and 2,388,000 viewers, making it the highest-rated and most-viewed College World Series game since 2009 when ESPN averaged a 1.7 US HH rating and 2,500,000 viewers for Game 1 of the CWS Finals.
In addition, ESPN’s 1.6 US HH rating for the final game of the college baseball season ranks as the third highest-rated baseball game – professional and college – across all cable and broadcast networks behind two of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball matchups.

Monday night’s victory by the University of Connecticut over University of Notre Dame in the NCAA Women’s National Championship earned a 2.8 US rating

Conclusions:
-The only televised women's sport has a monopoly on female sports fans and yet its national championship only outdrew Game 3 of the CWS by a margin of 3.2 to 2.3 million viewers.
-The men's NIT championship was outdrawn by Game 3 of the CWS by a margin of 2.3 to 1.3 million viewers
I'd say college baseball is holding up pretty damn well considering not only the impact of the disaster that is Title 9, but also the fact that half the country can't get behind their college team because it's too cold for them to play/practice for much of the season.

Keep this all in mind when you hear someone on this board say College Baseball is the #2 NCAA sport behind College Football and ahead of College Basketball
I've literally never seen this posted here.

This is the SEC Rant, and in the SEC, or at least the SEC West, baseball is as popular or more popular than men's basketball and way above any other sport (other than football, of course).
There are several SEC teams whose baseball teams outdraw their men's basketball teams.

College baseball is such a shitty product.

we got a glimpse of what baseball looked like with max entertainment value, and it was awesome. now we have this, mlb and college snoozefest. hard to go back for me, i've tuned out completely on the sport because it does nothing for me in its current state.
i hope that the purists are happy.

This thread is funny to read.
I like CBB to a point, just for the collegiate atmosphere - not for the competition. If you are looking for that, you are at the wrong place.
If you are looking at it from a pure sport perspective, you find better players, competition, and things to do as a fan at a minor league baseball game.

This thread comes as no surprise...
The top SEC baseball teams have a strong following that actually have fans show up to games
I drive 2 hours for big weekend matchups
For the teams that matter.. Baseball is the #2 sport

College baseball is just a fun event. It is a great environment. It is family friendly and one of the few men's sporting events out there that is actually affordable.
IDGAF what you think.

I did not attend one LSU baseball game as a student from 1980-1984, even though Skip's first year was 1983. Of course when we started winning regularly, I and about 238,469 other LSU fans started taking notice

No one is saying WBB is bigger than baseball, but baseball is consideraly behind mens basketball and football

Popularity in this Country is not necessarily a metric of true quality and/or entertainment. CAse in point:
1. Alabama
2. Paris Hilton
3. Kardashians...or however you spell it.
5. NASCAR
6. Obama
I could go on, but my point is pretty freaking solid.

College baseball will always be unpopular in the northeast and upper midwest. Lots of TV population and basketball fans live in those regions. Espn hates college baseball and that's one reason why. Nothing to see here.

I would rather kill myself than watch women's basketball

Let's be honest. Some sports, like baseball and hockey, are meant to be watched in person. They just don't have anything approaching the same appeal on TV. You could argue that football is meant to be watched in person, and that's true, but it at least works fairly well on TV as well, at least in this age of high def, computer synching, and multiple cameras.

Baseball provides the best opportunity for above-average athletes to play through high school. You can teach fielding position, transition, throwing motion, batting stance and swing...but you can't teach height, weight, and speed. I've seen many kids become excellent baseball players purely on their desire to be good. Those are typically the kids that invest significant hours (of their time) in batting cages and with pitching coaches.
I coach both (youth) football & baseball and have had some great football players try out for our select baseball team over the years. I'm talking about young kids that you watch play football and immediately think that they project up to college. They are bigger, stronger, and faster than every other kid out there and can dominate on pure athletic ability.
When it comes to baseball, without practice, they have almost no chance of hitting an above average pitcher who throws a decent fastball, change, and curve. That is exactly why they quit before they get started. They can't dominate (as they are used to in FB & BB) without significant practice over an extended amount of time.
That is why I like baseball and could care less who doesn't. I'm sure it is boring to someone who doesn't understand the strategy behind the game.

This is the first mostly non-troll post I recall you ever making. What's up with that?
Someday you're really going to have to own up to what the Aggies did to you. Inquiring minds want to know. Help is available.
