3rd and Chavis only occurs when you fear it most. Don't let the fear sink in and ya'll will be great. Gratz on the hire.

Here are the stats for Chavis while at LSU:
2014 - #30 nationally in defensive 3rd down conversion rate (36%)
2013 - #63 nationally (39.5%)
2012 - #9 nationally (31.5%)
2011 - #36 nationally (35.9%)
2010 - #8 nationally (33.3%)
Average - #29 nationally. It's not elite by any stretch, but neither is it horrible by any stretch.

We are all measured in Championship and not stats.

So you think Stats are meaningless, huh? Because if I was an LSU fan who beat Bama 9-6, then later lost to them 21-0 in the NC game, I'd be more worried about my offense than my defensive 3rd down conversion rate.

It's amazing how much shite talking you Aggies continue to do.

The last couple years I was afraid any time the opposing QB threw the ball in the air on any down. I will take a reduction in fear any day.

Dude, please. I just posted straight stats. No shite-talk at all, but one of your peoples went with the "we care about championships not stats" bullshite, and my post was nothing but a response to his retarded attempt to shite-talking.

I guess you didn't dick-ride Bama while talking shite about our offense? The same shite offense that ran for almost 400 yards on your shite defense?

After one of your people went with the retarded, "we care about championships not stats" bull shite, I pointed out the obvious - that LSU fans should blame their offense, not their 3rd down conversion rate, for the lack of championships over the least few years.

Tennessee fans told us about "3rd and Chavis" and LSU fans laughed at them. He was a great DC, but in the majority of big games when LSU needed a stop at the end, he drops into this soft zone and the opposing team marches down the field and scores. He was better on 3rd down at LSU than at Tennessee, but he has a tendency to not bring pressure in critical situations, which is important in college football.
The major problem is the Offensive Coordinators in the league had him figured out. They even said that. He had great talent and great defenses at LSU, but he kept getting burned in final drives. As bad as LSU's offense was, if he makes stops at the end of games, LSU goes 10-3 this year. 12-1 last year. 12-1 the year before.

When we have leads he doesn't lose games? Did you miss the 5+ losses he let a team drive down the field in the final minutes?
He's not s bad hire, he needs great talent to be accomplished.

3rd and Chavis isn't really accurate, it just sounds better than "Leading with the last defensive possession and Chavis."
He's a good coach, just have more than a two score lead at the end to feel secure.

chavis is a capable DC; maybe very capable even. so you guys got a good one. to be a very good hire, y'all are gonna have to recruit DL and quick as I don't see chavis in the "game" much longer.
your defense should improve over the life of his contract and maybe improve a lot; therefore sumlins goal will be reached.
that being said, the last 3 years we at LSU have seen average defenses under chavis. why? there is much speculation why but what we've had the last 3 years is poor athlete selection in the front 7 (or poor development or both). the stats on his D rankings are pretty much bull shite. when it came to playing good teams chavis defense the last 3 years just couldn't get it done. the proof of that is as fresh as 2013 when his D lost us every loss we had (with the possible exception of ole miss).
that being said, the man didn't deserve a raise BUT LSU still offered him a four million dollar contract. that's not chicken feed and was in the top 5 or so of college DC's in the country.
last comment is that fans usually don't know shite. don't know shite about the workings of an athletic department or shite about football. most especially the fans that post on message boards.

Mabye so but if we just get a few 3rd down stops this year, even with this shite offense, we beat MSU, Bama and ND.

And he had our offense figured out like no one else in the SEC did, so it kinda is like offsetting penalties.
