It would be almost impossible to make a rule for this. What if a team is down by a lot and need to come back to win it. Say screw them they need to still play slow?

Yes. The HUNH with the intent to keep the defense from subbing is a little crooked IMO, which is why Auburn has embraced it so fervently.

They're supposed to. Sometimes the refs get rushed and they fail to do so.
Bigger problem imo is refs not getting into position before the snap.

This. You dictate the tempo right back. This requires being high risk and jumping routes and anticipating playcalls. Be aggressive. They are going to score anyway. I'd rather them score quickly and increase my odds for a turnover than them drive the length of the field and sap all the energy from my defense.

His main point was always "is this where you want football to go" but of course people didn't want to argue over this point so they hopped on the one line about rather it was more injury prone or not (a secondary point to the first). Therefore they reframed the original argument which had a valid point. In the future I believe there will be a rule in place to slow down the offenses and allow more defensive schematics restoring the balance of powers and again allowing for a chess match instead of just bullet play. All of the rules of late have really shifted in the favor of offense and this really affects the game dissapportionately.

The way you solve the issue is allowing the defense the ability to substitute on their own within a set time frame, the first 3-5 seconds of the play clock. Revert to old rule in final 3 minutes of each half.
