Well, the title of the thread is "Is Sims a better QB than McCarron?"
And people have said he is or implied it.
So...

I think AJ is a better QB, but I believe that Sims is better for this team. He seems to be the glue that holds the team together and I never got that feeling from AJ.

You might be right. I'm not in the locker room. I do think that the transition to the HUNH, West Coast offense of Kiffin might have been more difficult for AJ. Blake was essentially a blank canvas for Lane to paint his masterpiece. AJ already had the sketch roughed in and there's only so much he would have been willing to change after winning two championships and losing two games as a starter.

Better? I can't say that. I think Sims benefits from his legs and Kiffin. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of having a mobile QB it adds so much for the defense to worry about. It would be interesting to see if Sims had more than 1 year at Bama...

For frick's sake, to hear some of you talk our Heisman candidate, 2 time national champion was grossly inferior to a guy who couldn't crack the starting lineup for five years.
that has no relevancy to anything...

but AJ is a vastly superior QB in nearly every phase of the game.
You say this, but how is he so vastly superior? Sims can pretty much make any throw McCarron can make, and has better mobility.

I just don't see that. I haven't seen Blake throw many into tight coverage. Blake throws a lot to WRs right off the snap. Both throw the deep ball equally as well.
And Blake gets to step back and look at the sideline after the Ds are set to get instruction. AJ broke the huddle and rolled with it.

Really? I've seen him do it numerous times this year.

Whatever works, right?

Both have a pretty deep ball, but Sims is more consistent with his.

Our oline this year is arguably better than last year.
Not for run blocking it isn't. I do agree the OL has been better in pass blocking or maybe Blake's elusiveness has something to do with that.

Who the hell even implied this? Don't get so over-defensive.
The way I see it...
Pocket presence: Pretty much a wash.
Extending the play: Blake. This is where his pocket presence pays off more for him than it did for AJ. AJ would save a sack by throwing it away (which was the right decision for him), but Sims, a lot of times, would turn a would-be sack into a first down.
Passing Consistency: AJ
Clutch: It's pretty much a tie, but tie goes to the one with a larger body of work, AJ.
Deep Ball: Pretty close, but I'm going to go with Blake. He doesn't throw as many as AJ did, but he seems to be more on target than AJ was. Pretty much a wash though.
Reading Defense: I don't think Blake is bad at it like some think, but AJ takes the cake here.
Legs: Blake. The fact that Blake was a threat to run kept defenses honest and he made them pay when they didn't account for him, or for when they cheated off their man.
Leadership: Blake. AJ wasn't a bad leader, but Sims is one of the best leaders we've ever had at QB in my opinion.
Who is the better QB prospect? I think it was and is AJ. He has more of the tools needed at the next level. Having said that Blake's work ethic is legendary, and I wouldn't dismiss him at the next level.
Who was the better college QB? Tough call, and one I'm not going to make. They've both done extraordinary jobs, and I personally don't care to make that judgement call. They're different guys, but they are two of the best Alabama QBs of all time.
Full disclosure: I haven't ever enjoyed watching an Alabama QB play like I've enjoyed watching Sims play. Something about seeing the underdog 5th year senior succeeding and shocking the nation just gave me chills. The way he just shook off his mistakes was truly amazing. I love how he shutup the majority of our fan base and made their jaws drop. Regardless of what happens in the playoffs, he's my all-time favorite Alabama player.

Sims is slightly better statistically.
In terms of leadership Sims is better and it's not even a contest.

He unites the entire team.
This is the biggest difference. Blake's teammates LOVE playing with him, and I don't think AJ had the same love from the entire team. That makes a huge difference.
Plus AJ was/is a douche.

AJ made a few awful decisions in his career but he made up for whatever wrong he did with national championships.
He may have won championships but whose to say Blake would not have just just as many playing with the same teams. I think we win last years Iron Bowl with Blake and it never would have come down to that dreadful kick 6.

Blake throws a better deep ball and is better at escaping a pass rush, IMO.
Escaping pass rush yes, better deep ball NO... I love Sims and he has been a pleasant surprise but he won't get drafted and there is a reason for that. Sims has benefited greatly from Kiffin and a SUPREMELY talented Amari Cooper. That can't be underestimated.. AJ is one of the best Bama QB's of all time and was a Heisman trophy finalist. If he had Kiffin as his coordinator and was allowed to play more wide open, he could have put up even better numbers.
IMO Sims zones in on Cooper(perhaps that is by design) but AJ seemed to spread out the wealth a little better.
Again I'm not knocking Sims, he has probably won a few games for us and is a good QB but AJ is much better.
Blakes deep ball is a hell of a lot better than AJ's and it's not even close. Go back and look at the throws if you don't believe it. Recievers usually had to slow up and wait for the ball with AJ giving the DB time to recover. Most of Blakes deep balls have been so pretty the recievers never have to break stride.

He can't read defenses like aj. His deep ball is much better. That is all I got.
This!! AJ is just a little more independent but if Blake was a 4th year starter he'd probably be miles ahead of AJ at this point in his career.

Brandon Avalos was better than both of them. Dude never lost a game as a starter.

Gotta give McCarron credit for doing it with a terrible OC.

Yea. No way in hell we lose to Ole Miss with AJ, also if he were still the QB the LSU and Arkansas games would not have been close. The newest is always the best with some people, but IMO Blake is not AJ. Just not as consistent.

Also. WTF is up with some of our too cool for school fans trying to rag on AJ. He's a different person than Blake, but they are both great leaders. Like a poster above said AJ is just a little more independent and outspoken. His teammates still love him, like they love Blake.

Blake's upside is much higher than AJ.
AJ had a worse OC, but he had a far better offensive line to protect him, RBs and defense to help him out.
The only thing Blake got over AJ is Coop.
NO wait. AJ had Coop too.
