My 8 team playoff proposal

I think four teams is just not enough. This year is proving that number 5 - 8, whoever that may be would have a shot. What is everyone's opinion on my format.
lets assume the following.
1. bama
2. oregon
3. fsu
4. msu
5. baylor
6. tcu
7. ohio st.
8. ucla
assumptions: big 12 goes to 12 and plays a championship game to get level with everyone else.
We will take this years calendar for this example.
dec 6th play conference championship games.
week after and the following weekend, have award shows, heisman, etc.
first round of playoff friday 19th and saturday 20th at the highest rated teams home field.
bama-ucla winner bama
oregon-ohio st winner oregon
fsu-tcu winner tcu
msu-baylor winner baylor
winners play jan 1st like current setup.
so,
bama plays baylor in sugar bowl winner bama
oregon plays tcu in rose bowl winner tcu
National championship game jan 12 2015
bama vs tcu
Winner: Bama!!! yea
I think this scenario works out great. I do think the power five conference winners should get an automatic bid and have 3 wild cards.
This would forever end the bickering and finally settle a true national champion!! Let it be so.
lets assume the following.
1. bama
2. oregon
3. fsu
4. msu
5. baylor
6. tcu
7. ohio st.

If Bama loses again, I promise to root for Auburn every game they play next year.

Everyone's gripe is that it's too many games and teams would be in wheelchairs going into the title game by that point.

I hate it and think its completely unnecessary to go any further. If you aren't good enough to get in the final 4 then forget it. The 5th team will always say they got hosed but IMO that's just too bad. You shouldn't have lost that game that put you there.
There are 13 games left to be played by the top 7 teams. I guarantee you at least 3 will be losers. The average odds of each one are about 25% or better to the underdog. 25% of 13= 3.25. Most of these games are better odds than that so wait until the CC's are over with in the first 4 game playoff season before you try to punt it. This is a great venue and as far as we'll ever need to go.

I agree with you 100 per cent. Ive already discussed with some friends and certainly not saying it is going to happen because it would mean that you guys and MSU would have to lose this weekend which don't see happening, but if it did, SEC probably gets left out of the final 4, you can bet your last dollar that it goes to 8 teams next year but even if not , I could buy into your format, needs to be 8 team playoff.

8 Teams is way too many. If you look back, the team ranked 8th, should have never sniffed the championship game in the BCS era.
If anything, I think 6 would be enough with the top 2 teams getting a bye. I'd also like to see at least the first games on campus, because traveling to mutiple games cross country will keep crowds away.
For instance- at one point this year, Auburn and FSU could have been at the Rose Bowl for the playoff game. How many fans do you think would have made the trip again to see a playoff game? I would think the fact that most fans who could make that trip, just did 11 months ago. First round games should be on campus.
I also think that let's wait until this season is complete and everything is in the books before we try to re-engineer the playoff system.

Lets not.
TCU and Baylor are frauds just waiting to get exposed
1 PAC team is more than enough
1 B1G team is more than enough as well
Free Shoes will probably have to vacate any playoff wins

assumptions: big 12 goes to 12 and plays a championship game to get level with everyone else.
Probable actual outcome...
Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State go to PAC, forming PAC 16
Kansas and team to be named later go to the B1G, forming the B1G 16
TCU , Baylor, Kansas State, Iowa State join a Gang of 5 conference
West Virginia joins the ACC and Notre Dame becomes a full time member
Power 5 becomes the Power 4 and CCG's become the defacto 1st round
Playoffs with 4 teams remain and life goes on.

Only problem with your "playoff" is that Fla St. and Bama are the two shittiest teams of the 8.
Both would lose first game in your bracket and both will lose first game in the pending playoff unless they play one another.
Bama is the shittiest #1 team there has ever been in late November. Not a flame.... they suckdick.

You could say that about ANY team. OMG the 9-7 Giants won a Super Bowl! We should go up to 64 teams!
College football is great because EVERY GAME MATTERS. The further you expand, the less the games matter. There's going to be controversy every single year with the conference format. If you go up to 8, the media is going to do the exact same shite with spots 7-12 that they're doing this year with spots 3-8.

I agree completely. I think the strategy for a fan is to only go to the NC if you can only go to one. The thinking is if you don't win the first one you wouldn't wanted to have been there anyway and now you don't have to go at all.
I agree completely on the first game should be at the leader's campus. #1 vs #4 at #1's house. #2 vs #3 at #2's house.

Yet the other college football division champs play many more games than the FBS champ and have done so for decades. It's like the powers that be in FBS think everybody else is playing flag football.

My concern with the new system of 12 people on the selection committee, a majority of 7 people now choose who is in and who is out. Do committee rankings have to be unanimous or just majority?
The old way used a system of subjective (polls) and objective (nerdy stuff) data into formulating the rankings.
I think barring any upsets, it's bama, oregon, fsu and baylor in. Leaving out MSU (lost to Bama who is in) and TCU (lost to Baylor who is in) keeps it simple but what if Ohio St is a 1 loss conference champion and is #5.
Definitely agree that going to 8 teams adds extra games that are not needed. Drop the regular schedule back to 11 games, a conference championship, a playoff game and the Natty.

Miss State's one loss is better than anyone else's. You can't boot Miss State just because the one loss came from a playoff team. Oregon's loss came to a non-playoff team and at home. Baylor also lost to a non playoff team. They're to be rewarded for that? Hell, Bama lost to a team that will have either 3 or 4 losses!
The reasoning for leaving State out is crap. "You're out because you lost to Bama". Well Oregon lost to Arizona, Baylor lost to West Virginia, and Bama lost to Ole Miss. How can you say those losses are OK while saying that Miss State's loss is inforgivable? So, Bama being better than Arizona and West Virginia hurts State's resume'? Fricked up system.
