If Mizzou had beaten Indiana this year and had not gotten blown out by Georgia, they would be in the running THIS year. So, why would they never be there?

Period. Expanding them would totally ruin the sport.
8 teams with no auto bids would be perfect IMO.
Play opening round on NYE and NYD
Semi finals 7-10 days later (depending on the calender)
Championship on the Saturday on MLK weekend
Play opening round at Rose, Fiesta, Sugar and Orange
Semi-finals at Cotton and Peach
Bid out the location for the championship game
they will never expand the playoffs into the winter semester ... ever ... they might edge the start of the winter semester now, but i don't think they do ...

quote:Yeah so we can watch two 6-6 teams play each other in the Beef-O-Brady's Bowl or the R&L Carriers Bowl. That's what is destroying the bowl system.
Destroy regular season and the bowl system. The two things that made College Football unique.

ACC scared...
Earlier today on ESPN radio their talking head "Danny Boy" said only conference champions should make the 4 team playoff. He'll throw a fit if the SEC gets 2 teams in.

Huh they were close to making the BCS title game in 2007 and had a shot last year if it wasn't for the blowout in the SECCG, wtf are you talking about. You act like they go 7-5 every season.lol. Only lost 2 games this year, this with losing 7 starters on offense. Sheesh. You act as if they have all their good players from last season.
Doing more with less!!

Guess what happens in an 8 team playoff? 9th and 10th are unhappy and bitch.
Guess what happens in a 16 team playoff? 17th and 18th are unhappy and bitch.
The bitching will never stop.

People really won't be happy until the college football regular season is as pointless as the college basketball regular season.
A bunch of largely meaningless games that are just a seeding contest for a big, high variance, luck filled tournament at the end.
No thanks.

I think four is perfect.
For football fans apparently five would be perfect.
If you make it "win your conference you're in", there'd be no reason not to schedule tough OOCs.
As it stands now there's still a big incentive for a Big 5 to simply not risk losing.

100%
It seems like we are hellbent on destroying the best regular season in sports.

2 too many now. The BCS was perfect. Now all you're doing is bringing in 2 undeserving teams. We don't need 6 undeserving teams. For ex. if it ended today we'd have Bama vs Oregon, the 2 best. We don't need FSU or MSU and you damn well know it. And no other CC needs to be in there either. I don't even like the SECCG. Bama is already the best SEC team. Why play a 2 loss East team? You know Mizzou will lose another game and even if they don't we'd be a 10pt favorite and beat them worse.

That can be accomodated simply by starting the spring semester the tues after MLK day. Final on sat and that gives students 2 travels days to be back on campus.
