There's absolutely nothing stopping UGA from self-penalizing in some ridiculous manner to threaten a suit. And, like I've stated, I believe that all you would need with this guy would be the threat of a suit.

Indeed he is, but we already know his financial situation is bleak and that he, allegedly, has moved to North Carolina. If UGA self-imposes some ridiculous ban to construct a lawsuit, then I think this guy neither has the financial means nor the willingness to proceed. Conjecture on my part, but I don't think it's too far off base.

Yeah that is why they are lawyering up, there was never any Gurley's word vs douchebag situation. These scumbags are lawyering up in an attempt to protect themselves from incoming litigation from UGA if they say anything more.
They would be wise to recant what they've already said, honestly.

I also have to wonder if there is an extortion angle to this as well. It's funny that doughboy hired Ed Garland, whose famous clientele have included Ray Lewis, Mookie Blaylock, Chamique Holdsclaw, Ben Roethlisberger, and Dany Heatley. None of these hired him for civil matters. Each was facing criminal charges. Just find it interesting. Not to say that he can't do civil work, but he is one of the better known criminal defense attorneys.
To be honest, I'm not sure how the snitch can afford Garland.
You better believe that UGA has browbeat both of these clowns threatening them with prosecution and litigation to ruin both. Truth be told, UGA wants this resolved as quickly as possible. If the NCAA supports UGA's findings, this will probably go away. If there is further punishment, they will bring down the entire house of cards.
As it stands, UGA found this guy and questioned him. It's no coincidence that he lawyered up quickly as well. If they had nothing to fear from being rats, they wouldn't need attorneys. The fact that they retained counsel so quickly speaks volumes to me that they have something to fear.

He did also retain a very high profile lawyer, so WTF knows.

I think you might be thinking a little too much with this. Do you really think that UGA will self impose sanctions to try to get into a civil suit with this guy? if so, then Gurley isnt coming back this season and they would be doing so to try to get some money from a guy who doesnt have any

they didn't, and he didn't.
There's really only one important thing in this situation, did TG receive money, how much, and (most importantly) can it be proven?
I can call the SEC and NCAA and say I gave nick marshall $10,000 to come mow my lawn. That's irrelevant unless there is proof. By all these parties getting lawyers and clamming up (after just weeks ago sending out emails to anyone who would listen), this is good for us. Also, UGA has already done our investigation and turned it into the NCAA. We've already suspended him one game.
He might miss arkansas, I don't know. But I feel pretty good that even if he does he'll be back by Jax regardless.

Nah, just to threaten a lawsuit. We want nothing from this guy other than for him to fall off the face of the Earth. I'm not saying we will because I don't think we'll have to go that far. Just that it's possible. I don't think the NCAA is going to take a stand against this and I don't think that Bryan Allen wants it to go any further either.
I forgot to mention, as WG pointed out, that he has also allegedly been fired from his job.
