OT: Did you get whipped/spankings as a child?

Got either a spatula, wooden spoon, old man's back hand or the belt. But not terribly often cause I was a good kid. And I was one of those who felt terrible when the old man would give a "I'm not mad I am disappointed" lecture.

I got smacked around. Am a father of two now and will never deal with my kids in that manner. Doesn't accomplish anything. Only creates fear and resentment. I really have no interest in my kids cowering in my presence.

I got switched if I wasn't in bed by the time my dad was in bed but it never happened. It may sound strange but I simply didn't have the option to misbehave. It was simply a fact of life that I would do whatever I was told immediately no questions asked. I had to answer within 2 seconds and appear before my parents (running from the other side of the house) within 5-6 seconds. Not doing it was not an option. I was told not long ago that if I behaved like other kids, they would seriously have considered about putting me up for adoption.

I also had my nose covered up if I was breathing through my nose while i was sleeping as a practical joke and I got tickled till I was screaming and hyperventalating a few times.

When I got into high school, I got punched and slapped pretty badly a few times and I had stuff thrown point blank into my face twice. Still better than the verbal abuse I got at times from my mother which was honestly much much much worse.

I was spanked as a child. It worked well. I don't have any weird psychological issues and I don't have a propensity for violence.

I did...but not often...I preferred a good arse whipping to a long drawn out talk about how I was screwing up my future (I did) and impugning the family name (as if it weren't already pretty well trashed before I came along).

I have spanked one of my kids and realized it did nothing but made me feel better....and taught the kid that if your bigger and stronger you can force your will on those who are smaller and weaker. Spanking a child is the easiest form of discipline and in my experience the least effective...in fact done often enough it is counter to its desired goal....whip a kid often enough and he will eventually get to the point where it means nothing. Spanking is more gratifying to the parent than it is beneficial to the child.....most of you will deny that but you are lying to yourself if there is not some pleasure in swatting the fanny of a misbehaving young'un who immediately straightens their shite up...

I got my arse whooped alot. I have one older brother and my dad had a 2 by 4 paddle that he made. Anytime we did something real bad we had to go out into the shop and he had a talk with us and always got 5 licks. Then after the licks he made us sit on a wood crate and think about what we did for a while. I hated it, but it made me do better.

I do not have kids yet but I am planning on spanking when needed girl/boy.

I sure miss that old fart. He kept me on the straight and narrow with everything that wasn't straight and narrow. For all the discipline I recieved; I received twice as much love, friendship, quality time, counsel, scripture, and education (country and otherwise). I always knew he loved me and under no circumstance would he allow me to go astray. He is my hero.
