Yeah out of all the places mentioned from Mississippi, Ocean Springs is by far the best.

I like Oxford, I really do, but for me Ocean Springs is where it's at.

New Braunfels, Texas

Texas is huge so there are quite a few small town "gems" but New Braunfels is my favorite.

Float the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers, great country music scene (Gruene Hall in particular), amazing homecooked food, hot girls, its a great little getaway.

We used to go here every year for a family gathering of sorts and stay at Canyon Lake.

God Damn the Guadalupe is cold though.

When its 100+ outside and you've had your first 6 beers of the day in your float, it is perfect. Haha, but yeah when you first get in it definetly takes a few minutes to get adjusted to.

ETA: I prefer the Comal over the Guadalupe.

Hot Springs is meh.

This. The lake and its baller houses are cool, as well as the historic parts of the city, but Spa City is pretty seedy. I spent a lot of my childhood on Lake Hamilton, but I'd hardly classify Hot Springs as a "nice small town."

There are some great candidates in Louisiana.
Thibodaux is pretty small, so I'd nominate it.
Mandeville and Covington are each really small, but cool.

Breaux Bridge is cool as is St. Francisville.

It's definitely awesome on a hot day but when you first jump in it will take your breath away

Never been to the Comal. Have to try that one out next time.

Yeah, I would rank Ocean Springs ahead of Oxford just because it would take me a bit longer to get bored in Ocean Springs.

Oxford if it qualifies. If not, maybe Pass Christian or Ocean Springs. Hernando is a nice town, too.

I grew up there...no. I mean it's safe and all, but that's about all it has going for it.

That's debatable. Oxford has the best schools in the state. It has better combined food, music, and art scenes than anyone in the state. It has a booming economy with tons of local businesses. It also has natural beauty. The drawback of course is the college students who live there part time.

Ocean Springs may be the best town in the state, but it's not far and away.

"Fairhope and it isn't close"

Fairhope is probably my favorite city in Alabama but in many ways Mountain Brook is nicer. If I had to live in either city though I'm going with Fairhope.

"St Augustine"

Best small city on the Atlantic Coast of Florida.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Every southern state has enough trashy people to go around. Drive about ten minutes outside of Oxford and see what you find.

So you're saying cross the line into Union County ?!

frick you brah!! You got something against heroin ?

If I won Powerball I would probably just buy a massive spread of land right outside New Braunfels and live it up

Vicksburg would be much higher on my list if it weren't like a little Jackson. The crime is unreal there, all kinds of crime in that town.

I've lived here 32 years and like it a lot, but I wouldn't put it on the list. Too big to qualify as a small town to me, though that's obviously a matter of taste. Crime isn't a problem unless you win big at the casinos. If you come and win, stay until dawn!

Downtown has improved markedly since I moved here, and the military park is an excellent training ground for walkers, runners, and cyclists.

Natchez is a bit smaller and nicer in my opinion.

I don't know how long it's been since you've been there, but It's improved a lot over the last 10 years. I'm from Southaven, which has been trending south for around the same period of time.
