Here is the enrollment statistics of states represented in the upcoming freshmen at Alabama:

LINK

Looks like close to 43% of undergrads come from out of state. Interestingly there are 1,338 from Florida, 2,048 from Georgia, 1,314 from Texas, and 1,131 from TN.

These students would likely get instate tuition at their own state school, what is the motive of paying out of state tuition to go to Alabama? At Georgia they will get Hope scholarship (basically a free ride), but why pay to go out of state?

I mean in Texas the students can go to A&M or UT-Austin.. but would paying out of state be worth it? O.o

Bama has been throwing money at anyone that will consider coming there.

It's a large, 35,000 student campus in a relatively small state. Bama is offering tons of scholarships to out of state students to lure them here.

They have a shite ton of recruiters & have committed a lot of money in large OOS undergraduate numbers.

LSU is continuing to recruit out of state students too but there's no way in hell our administration would go 50%/50%. We're more focused on increasing our graduate student (research) enrollment.

Its a back up school for those who didn't get into UGA.

You should have just said that in the OP instead of this thinly veiled round about way of creating the thread.

You're talking about a small number of students.
The rest go to: Baylor, Texas Tech, University of Houston, Stephen F Austin, North Texas, Sam Houston, Texas State, SMU, TCU, etc.

But those kiddos who don't have the grades to attend the big two (A&M and UTex), but want to experience a larger university setting (e.g., not Trinity University in San Antonio) are able to get into Bama, Ole Miss, LSU, Auburn, etc.

I'm a little late to the party, but a kid in the youth group I volunteered for over the past few years was college shopping last year and I ran into him not too long ago and asked him how it went. He had a 26 on his ACT.

Told me UA offered him a full ride. I was sort of shocked. Maybe not legit, doesn't seem like it, but damn.

Sometime around 2005-2006 UA decided it wanted to stop being a smallish regional school that was only focused on Alabama.

Enter Dr Witt, dozens of national recruiters, a palatial campus remodel and expansion, and about 25k new, more diverse, students and faculty. There is still a ways to go, but UA is sprinting in the right direction. Just about every measurable you can think of is improving, maybe aside from parking spaces.

Does LSU still have the tuition waiver for out of state students with 30 or higher ACTs? That was a good deal

University of Texas and Texas A&M only accept the top 10 percent of students so many from Texas choose to go out of state. Arkansas, Oklahoma, Bama, Ole Miss are the most popular choices.

The only girl I knew from my high school that went to Alabama was dumb as a post and sure as frick couldn't get in to A&M or tu. I think it would be safe to say that over 85%-90% of the students from the Great State of Texas that chose to spend their collegiate years in Alabama, didn't get in to A&M/tu.

My friend from Nashville goes to Bama. He grew up a Bama fan, his father went to Bama, so he has always wanted to go there.

They sent acceptance letters to my entire graduating class (atlanta private school) whether you applied or not.

Anyone over 24 ACT got scholarship offers whether you applied or not...

Oddly enough, Bama and Ole Miss sent everyone in my HS friend group pamphlets. I applied and was accepted to both as were most of my friends. A few ended up going to Bama.

My SAT score was an 1150/1600 GPA was a 2.9

I believe LSU is going to start recruiting out of state students more in the future although not at a 50 in state 50 out of state ratio

I hope they do.
