My roommate made the switch. I think he really likes it for the most part.

I switched several years ago and couldn't be happier. I can't think of any reason I would go back to an iPhone.

There is a trend in the Android direction. My 14yo wants to switch, so iPhone must be losing some of its cool factor.

Has anyone ever bought or done their upgrade through Best Buy? If so, what was it like?

I've had Samsung phones for a while now. The Galaxy 3 made me crazy over the battery life. I had to keep that sumbitch plugged in at every available opportunity or do w/o a phone. The Galaxy 4S is much, much better at this.

I can't compare to Commie Apple products because I've never and will never own one. The Commie wife, Commie daughter, and Commie stepdaughter all own iPhones. They never took my teachings to heart, for some reason. They thankfully haven't been lured into the Apple cult. Yet. It's a 24/7 job keeping them safe.

I still rock a Pixi for my personal phone. Great OS too bad the company sucked.

I used to work for Sprint and back then all of the salespeople at Best Buy had to work on every phone company so they aren't as knowledgeable as people that work for just one company.

If I were you I would just go in to the Verizon store.

I will disagree just in that the prices and deals for an upgrade at Bestbuy are insanely better than anything I ever got in the sprint store. But I research the heck out of my phones before I buy.

If you're looking for the best deals they are typically on each provider's website. I would go that way rather than deal with the people at Best Buy.

ETA: When I did this shite 5 years ago all of our stores(Sprint) would match prices from places like RadioShack and Best Buy. Worth checking to see if your Verizon store will do this. Ask the manager. They can change any price they want, it's just a matter of them being willing to do it so be nice.

All I have to add is the HTC One is far superior to any Samsung galaxy phones. It feels better, looks better and is more user friendly. Performance is similar, but you will feel like you bought a much higher quality phone with the HTC. Trust me on this one it you end up deciding between those two.

I have tried Android on two different occasions and both were garbage to me. I have had the iPhone 4 and now the 5s and they destroy both Androids that I had.

That said:

I would have gotten an HTC One instead of the 5s had there been a good quality fitted waterproof case for it like the Lifeproof or Incipio. The HTC One has a great interface, slightly bigger screen than the 5s and is still a sleek, good looking phone.

He said he wanted the Note 3. If he wants a big arse phone, the Nexus 5 won't cut it.

But the Nexus 5 is a damn fine phone and would be my choice.

I had an iPhone 4 for two years, sandwiched between Android devices (currently an S3 but I'm due for an upgrade). Family has Nexus 4 and Windows phone.

Both better than the iPhone. The iPhone is stale boring crap at this point.

1) not really a fan of Samsung, their hardware, or their horrible Touchwiz skin.
2) not really a fan of HTC's history of abandoned phones (for updates).

You didn't mention the Nexus line. Excellent hardware, top-of-the-line specs at midrange prices, and the very latest unadulterated Android. No carrier bloatware, no manufacturer boatware. Ironically, it's the closest thing to the iPhone in that regard in the Android ecosphere.

Interesting. I've got an S3 that's nearly two years old that still goes all day. You have to manage Android a little more closely than iPhone because of the multitasking, and monitor which apps are eating into your battery. Many will run in the background constantly eating up your battery, and their features can be reduced or turned off. Facebook is a good example of this.

When I switched to Android it was like my eyes were opened to what a smartphone could be. Apple's interface looks like a fresh pile of doggie droppings compared to any of the top droids. Iphone development has been stalled out for a couple of years now. Android is going strong.

Apple only has 15% of the smartphone market share. Samsung, by itself, owns 31% of the market share.

Same here.

Had a 4S for about 1.5 years and then was promoted to a position where I could get a company phone and paid cell service. However, they only offered the Galaxy S3 to us. I had it for about 4 months and hated it. It ran hot a lot, couldn't hold a charge for crap, and just wasn't as user intuitive as the iPhone. I switched back to a 4S after 4 months.

Well, I went with the Note 3. Got a great deal at Verizon. I'm now doing their share everything plan, along with the edge program. But because of my data package, I only pay $4 a month for the phone, my bill is cheaper, and I walked out with a phone, otterbox, car charger, and portable battery for $130.
