Arent yall the most penalized AD in the history of D1 sports?

And you complain about the maturity of posters. Funny.

I think this is a great hire for Auburn, and can potentially be a home run hire. But, he is a wildcard as of now.

There is no reason at all for Alabama to gloat. They could have hired that boiled egg-eating coach from Teen Wolf and the program wouldn't have gotten worse. Any change is a good change at this point for auburn...and the same is true for Bama basketball.

Nope. bama owns that title. Congrats, print the shirts. You had SIXTEEN teams put on probation, for major violations, in one fell swoop. Take away every other probation you have ever received, and those SIXTEEN are the most.

Sink our program?
The program is a dumpster fire in an endless cycle of mediocrity. We hired a coach that has a track record of fixing that kind of problem. I'll gloat all I damn want to.

How would you rate the current state of their program?

I can sense a lot of pain behind the posts in here.

Depends... Pearl is somewhat capable of coaching at an upper level, but is Auburn willing to make the financial commitment to the program to make it a contender?
Where will Auburn's recruiting base (for basketball) be? Arkansas didn't get good until they were able to get into Memphis, and it's no coincidence that after Scott Edgar (our Memphis recruiting ace) left that the program went downhill.
Let's face it, it's all about football in Alabama. Will the fans support it to the level that it needs to be supported to be a national contender?
Not saying it can't happen, but I just don't see it. We were there for a while, and struggling to get back there.

Yes. We just spent a frickton of money on a state of the art arena and we are shelling out for Bruce Pearl.

That's just the beginning of it...
Do you seriously think (not kidding, want your serious opinion) that enough folks will care enough about basketball down there to feed the program?
Posted on 3/18/14 at 4:55 pm to WonderWartHawg
Do you realize how many people have ordered season tickets today? I cannot put a number on it right now but I have seen dozens of message board posts today of people saying they just ordered or were talking to TUF
Bruce has already made a connection with the students and will tonight as well...he will bring an excitement to the student body that was previously unknown in Auburn

I think there is apathy because basketball has been so bad for so long. When Auburn basketball was respectable, the fans cared and games were fun.
Bruce Pearl is the perfect hire because of the energy he brings and what he'll do to promote the program. He'll get people into the gates early and expectations will be pretty low because of the last few years so he'll have some time to get something going.
I think he'll have Auburn a respectable basketball program down the road.

I'm butthurt about the hire, no bones about it. This was a great hire by Auburn.
It's true that football is king in Alabama. The best way to deal with that:
1) Attack it head on with a splash hire - Check
2) Bring in a guy that excels at connecting with students and supports the school - Check
3) Install a system that is exciting to watch - Check
4) Make sure the coach has had success and isn't a flash in the pan hire - Check
There are no guarantees when hiring a new coach, but Auburn unquestionably made the right move. They committed with a big time hire. My guess is that it'll pay dividends for them starting immediately. Or, well, whenever Pearl is allowed to start recruiting.
Meanwhile, our coach is sitting around prattling about how in year 3 he just hasn't had enough time and his players all suck, meanwhile our program looks like that kinda hot, kinda ugly chick at the end of million dollar baby.

I think Pearl is a damn fine teacher of the game. I also happen to believe he's a rat and a cheat. He'll need to change that. As I said, I would not have been a fan of his hire at Bama, then again, I ain't too thrilled about having Kiffin on the staff either. War Eagle

Do you think sanctions would hurt AU's basketball program as it is now? Unless there is a clause to level the arena, AU has nothing to lose, everything to gain.
