Curly Hallman is by far the biggest scumbag that LSU has ever had. I know several of his players at the time, and back with the football office was still in TS, they said they would drive by late at nite (curfew was a joke) and they would see the lights on his office and loud music playing. One of his former players was hired to help the Hallman's move and as he walked in the door, Hallman, wife next to him, told him to take his shirt off, as his wife "got aroused" seeing big muscles on football players. He's like EWE was in getting caught stealing: neither only did it one time and got caught that one time. He & Ken Stabler were big drinking buddies on the Redneck Riveria & was once seen stumbling drunk at a strip club at noon one Wed afternoon; this after being fired from several positons, college and highschool.

quote:I've known Curley well for nearly 50 years, and I wouldn't doubt any of what you said is true...although I'm not sure about the story with Barbara involved...I guess stranger things have happened. Curley grew up in Northport, Ala. and was the youngest of four or five brothers. His folks didn't have anything and his entire family was rough as a cobb. Hell, having coached under Jackie Sherrill AND Danny Ford how else could he have turned out? On a positive note, you'd have a hard time finding a guy more enjoyable to sit around in a beer joint with, drinking and telling lies/stories.

I meant no disrespect for his wife, who is, by all accounts, a fine & upstanding person. The player telling that story said she immediately got pissed and stormed out of the room.

Fran with his insider newsletter is the obvious choice.
2nd place won't be a popular pick: Jackie "You can't prove it" Sherrill.

Didn't Fulmer snitch on Alabama while doing the same exact thing (offering money to Albert Means)?
No, he didn't offer money. What's your source on that lie?

Does this help you to understand a little better?
"In the end, despite being an early participant in the pay-for-play negotiations, Tennessee did not recruit Means, and we later found out why. Early in the recruiting process, Tennessee assistant coach Pat Washington -- who was the starting quarterback for Auburn in the mid-1980's, including during the 1985 Iron Bowl -- recruited Means for the Volunteers, and Lynn Lang sensed his desperation. Early on, anyway, with Washington making the early offers, Tennessee was in the bidding process as well.
"He told me his job was on the line and that he needed Means because he had lost David Paine and Kindal Moorehead to Alabama. The first amount he talked about was $50,000, and then $75,000. But this was about the same time they had all that academic stuff [the Linda Bensel-Meyers allegations] going on, so I think he got cold feet."
With that, Tennessee backed away and did not actively recruit Means. But they didn't just fade away, they blew the whistle on Lang."
