What's the deal with Georgia baseball?

They're sitting at 1-5 in the midst of a four game losing streak, including an 18-4 loss to Georgia Southern. Are they really this bad, or will they figure things out? Personally, I'm embarrassed that they are representing SEC baseball.

They are only 1 of 3 SEC teams to have ever won the national title in baseball. And they were the first SEC team to do it.

Mark Richt has lost control of the Georgia Baseball program

They're usually pretty bad.

They've been pretty bad for several years now. It's not surprising. Missouri and UGA will probably miss the SEC tourney.

We hired a new coach but he needs time to implement his system. I was excited for this season.. but things haven't been playing out as I had hoped.

Missouri has never missed the SEC tourney, so I'd say that's unlikely.

Switch of the regime from Perno to Stricklin this year..
Recruiting has suffered badly the past few years, mostly because Perno went after the kids that were sure-fire MLB players like Byron Buxton and not quality D1 baseball guys.
I think we'll be back soon enough, but this year is not gonna be pretty

We just hired a new coach after we canned Perno. UGA fans are being patient. We've been good at baseball before and will be again.

They're usually pretty bad.

And to OP, how does it feel that when we beat you on Tuesday, we are going to kill your resume with 2 losses and keep you out of the tournament?
But seriously, we're an above average SEC program on a downturn. We'll be back, but we don't have the talent and we are breaking in a new coach.
Edit: And getting killed by GS is terrible but losing to FSU is nothing to be embarrassed by.

Yes and no. Only 3 teams have won the CWS under the SEC banner, but Mizzou has a national title as well.

They haven't been good since 2008, they know it, they'd like to be better, they got a new coach, but nothing has changed from last year to this year.

The past two years that has been the case, but to suggest that we are historically is pretty ignorant.
We will be pretty awful this year, Perno left the cupboard bare with lot of underclass men on the roster with only three seniors. I don't expect to win much but as long as the team progresses throughout the season I will consider Strickland's first season a success.

Was that the fluke Fresno State year?

And there was no real reason to think it would. Stricklin is in the process of fixing Perno's vast mistakes with the guys already on campus. It'll be one or two good recruiting classes before we're back to old form (which was pretty fricking good).
For all the good things he did while at UGA, Perno was a bigger anchor to the baseball program than Grantham was on football.

I will always consider UGA the first though. I don't count Missouri's as SEC.
And 5 years ago is when Fresno State won it. I remember thinking UGA had that national title locked up, but Fresno kept scrapping.

Yep. Won Game 1, lost Game 2, single handedly lost Game 3 to Steve fricking Detweiler. There was (still is) a theory that UGA was hamstrung by the Nike bats we were using that year; bats didn't give anywhere as much pop as what other teams were using. UGA changed bats in 2009 and were undefeated for a good stretch before collapsing and losing pretty much everyone to the draft (which signaled the beginning of the end).

Oh, I will always consider UGA the first SEC team to win it, but 4 SEC teams have won it. Granted the SEC can't claim Mizzou's title.

Polk coaching tree.

I think Georgia is on about the same trajectory Tennessee was under Serrano when he took over. You'll be good in time -- but it probably won't be in years 1 or 2. Year 3, you should be "back". May be ready to compete in year 2 given all of the talent in the immediate surrounding area of Athens.
