Hmmm. I don't think he's smirking with them. He's smirking at them. While he takes their recruits and all of their decent coaches.
And Vandy falls all over themselves thanking him for it.

Given how he's poached their recruiting class (not just the normal recruit here and there that coaches will take when they switch jobs -- Vandy's class is pretty wrecked right now) and how he's defended his actions by saying things like "they pledged to me not Vanderbilt," I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say it's classy.
CJF has done Vandy wrong in a lot of ways, imo.

Wow...Penn State has to take potshots at Vandy? What a classy move...

That ad just comes of as extremely insincere. I'm no PR professional, but I just don't think that was the best way to "thank" a fan base. In fact, it does the exact opposite and rubs me the wrong way.
"It was a wonderful experience"???? WTF...why didn't he just say "Thanks for the money"
How about "It was an honor to be your coach". That sounds 100X better.
And what a dumbass move to have it paid by Penn State. Guy just signed a $27 million deal and couldn't come up with a couple thousand to pay for it himself.
No problem with him leaving for Penn State...but this was a fail on his part.

its fricking vanderbilt. what kind of classes were they pulling in before franklin? Can a coach break what he is solely responsible for?

Eh, even if Vandy fans get pissed, only a hand full of people are pissed in Tennessee. Most of the orange nation is at least secretly happy he's gone.

Franklin reminds me of this guy:

quote:
It was a wonderful experience.
What a dumb-arse.

Penn St screwed.
We know about hiring a Vandy coach. They just got Dinardo'ed. If PSU had a chance to come back, just ended.

1. Penn State used some less than profound throwaway comments in quotations that came across as anything but heartfelt.
2. Could Franklin look any more smug in that picture?
3. Who at Penn State thought that this advertisement was necessary to print as constructed?
