Yea, they tried like hell to get 8-4 WKU a bowl but to no avail

They should seriously change it to 7 or 8 wins. Being .500 and going to a bowl is

Wait a minute- the Bahamas bowl? Oh hell yeah! UGA can continue to suck up all the world's shitty luck if it got to to the Bahamas at the end of the season.

LSU has already demonstrated that Oklahoma and Ohio State are not match for the SEC. Oregon should be next.

I've said for awhile now that Bowls should be 8, possibly even 9 wins. I seem to get mixed reactions when I suggest this, as some think there is no downside to more football. I say no one really gives a shite about mediocre (sometimes even flat terrible) football from teams who have shake weights and ab rollers in their weight rooms. If only the teams that had 9 wins were allowed to play in a Bowl this year, the following teams would have a post-season:
Missouri
South Carolina
Alabama
Auburn
LSU
Florida State
Clemson
Duke
Miami
Ohio State
Michigan State
Wisconsin
Baylor
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Stanford
Oregon
Arizona State
UCLA
USC
Louisville
UCF
Cincinnati
Bowling Green
NIU
Ball State
Marshall
ECU
Rice
Fresno State
That's 30 teams that're decent at worst in 15 Bowls. If we expanded it to teams with 8 wins, then we'd have:
Iowa
Nebraska
Minnesota
Virginia Tech
Georgia
Texas A&M
Vanderbilt
Texas
Washington
Houston
Louisiana
WKU
Buffalo
Middle Tennessee
North Texas
Utah State
Boise State
Notre Dame
BYU
Enough teams for 24 Bowls with one odd team out. Bowls are supposed to be a reward for a good season. 9-3 is a good season. .500 isn't good or bad, I don't know why we need 35-40 Bowls every year that no one cares about. If all we really cared about was more football, Arena League would be booming as a bridge from spring to real football season. But it isn't exactly booming, because no one really cares about crap teams.

Completely agree. I think 10 wins should be the cutoff. There should only be a handful of bowls. It should be prestigious to go to a bowl. But there's way too much money in bowl games for that to happen. If anything we'll get more bowls in the future, not less.

I would be completely for 10 wins, but there's no way in hell that would ever even be considered. I think 8 is a fair compromise.

Ditto.
Cutoff should be at 8 for BCS conferences and 10 for non-AQs. Granted, it'll never happen, but I'm tired of watching 6-6 Michigan Directional School versus 7-5 Illinois Directional School.
The fact that teams with losing records have gone to bowl games the last two years (6-7 UCLA and 6-7 Ga Tech) is a disgrace and evidence enough that we have too many bowls.

Rose
Sugar
Orange
Cotton
Liberty
Armed Forces
Citrus
Peach
Sun
Gator
Should be the only bowls played. That's more than enough and would keep the quality of games up. It would effectively, reward the Top 20 teams.

If you took only the teams with 10 wins this year, you'd have exactly enough teams to fill those ten Bowls with one team leftover.

Then don't watch. If people really didn't watch them, those bowls would go away.

Big 10 crew is working the BCSNG game. ACC gets 3 of the BCS games. Big12 will work one

I can see only six bowls I might be remotely interested in watching out of what 35?
Yea, that 4+1 is going to suck hard next year nothing to get excited about right there.

8 wins (out of a 12 game regular season) is 75% and the most reasonable for a bowl invite

24 bowls is much better than 35 or 36!
I might add an additional limit for schools not in Big 5 schools to win 9 or 10 games because of weaker SoS. Based on regular season wins only. Going 8-4 in the Sun Belt is probably easier than going 8-4 in the SEC.

I would add that teams should be paired closer to rank than picking for beauty contests.
Taking out the top 4 (for the playoff next year) you would have bowls games like this using this years final BCS :
Stanford vs Baylor
Ohio State vs Missouri
South Carolina vs Oregon
Oklahoma vs Clemson
Oklahoma State vs Arizona State
Central Florida vs LSU
UCLA vs Louisville
Wisconsin vs Texas A&M (moved 1 slot to prevent SEC vs SEC)
Fresno State vs Georgia (moved 1 slot to prevent SEC vs SEC)
Northern Illinois vs Duke
Southern Cal vs Miami

I say as long as there are venues and sponsors that are willing to give teams a bid they should be allowed to do so. Many times you forget that it's not necessarily about whether you like the bowl matchup but these are celebrations for players and for seniors who are likely all going to play their last football game at these bowls. Don't hate on the teams who squeak by because you don't want to see the game. Just don't watch the game. If the venues and sponsors decide it's not worth their dollars to send these kids to bowls they can do so...but why force them to stop if everyone actually involved in the bowl (the venue, the teams, the city, the sponsors, and the families) are happy with the arrangement.

I never said I "hated" anyone's team, and I don't watch those Bowls. If you're one of the people who don't mind more Bowls, that's fine. The problem I have with this line of thought is that is does nothing but water down and ruin the value of Bowl games. They're compromising the idea of putting a good game on TV in lieu of more money, and when has that kind of greed ever been OK with most people? And spare me the whole "celebration for the seniors, because these kids worked hard and it's their last game :-(" spiel. For one, if they're seniors, they're not kids. They're 22 or 23 years old. For two, if they wanted a Bowl game, maybe they should have played like they wanted it and produced a winning season. Why should anyone be rewarded with anything for "squeaking by", as you put it? Yay mediocrity!
