If I were Saban, I'd go to Texas. Austin is a great town and they will drop real money. Why teh hell not?

Any coach with a clause (or even the mindset) to become the highest payed upon winning a championship would have his salary double thanks to ole Nick.
I personally think he may be retiring...ever since that awkward jump-hug he performed after the LSU game. His wife loves Tuscaloosa, but feels unappreciated.... He states he's too old to start over (See his future QB)... Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part.

A little off topic but I am guessing that LSU could not offer a coach the numbers Bama could? If Bama can offer 10 which I think is prob 2 mil too high I have a tough time thinking LSU could match that. I would think 7 possible 8 max?
And I am not talking Saban I am just saying in general, does LSU have the same $ as bama?

Again - this is where perspective and ego all play out.
Bama has a huge football ego, as does LSU - but Texas has a huge cultural ego that extends to everything, especially football - particularly in the Dallas/Austin corridor. Every Texan has a Texas state clock in their home. Every Texan has a Texas flag hanging or flying somewhere. They're extremely proud.
This is the home of the Dallas soap opera, and JR Ewing like characters in real life. While people in Louisiana and Alabama might balk at their state university paying $10 million for a football coach - for the right coach, Texans will say (at least initially) - THANK G-D UT got this head coaching hire right - $10 million a year for Saban is steep, but if you want the best, you have to pay the most. The eyes of Texas are upon you....

Yet everyone is talking about Texas offering Saban 10 to 12 million a year like it's no big deal. They conveniently won't be held accountable because "they're Texas and they're rich" and apparently entitled to pay that much without and criticism.

Money is not the only reason Saban would leave. Matching doesn't mean he'd go. Hell even paying a little more may not be enough. Saban likes the challenge and even though he doesn't admit it, he may even like the change of scenery.
I'm not saying he's going to Texas, but there are more reasons than just money.

Probably not raw dollars, but it would be a comparable compensation package, value-wise. Most SEC schools, to be honest, are only limited by political realities and other institutional priorities, because of the revenue sharing agreement - particularly the "upper half" of the conference, football-wise.

That's great and all, but if you think the state of texas places more value on college football than the state of Alabama then you're kidding yourself

I think that "best investment the university ever made" quote might be a contributing factor, along with it not actually being a real figure. IF a $10-12MM annual salary came to pass, it would most certainly be met with criticism and scrutiny.

I don't think LSU could even do that. much less come close to what Bama could ultimately pay. This is without considering the high amount we pay our assistants (Cam #2 and Chavis #4)

I didn't say that - I said, and I thought I was clear, that Texas has a giant cultural ego - the greatest of the 50 states, by far - probably only Hawaii (and they're so laid back, overall, who can tell?) even in the same conversation.
And football, across the board, is a huge priority for Texas - it is diluted, somewhat, by the proliferation of big league and mid-major programs in the state, the 50,000 high schools that take football seriously and 2 NFL teams.
But Texas takes football as seriously as Alabama takes football - perhaps even more, overall.
And the Longhorns are second only to the Cowboys (and even then, only by a little.)

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Texas A&M, Penn, Michigan, MIT, Stanford, and Notre Dame are all much richer than Texas.
Sorry if actual facts go against message board mob mentality. Texas's wealth is vastly overblown.

LSU may have as many billionaire boosters as Alabama, but none of them are going to fork over their money for a coach like Bama boosters would. Football is important here. But it's not Alabama important.
