Yeah, but we weren't really spread back then. I always thought Mason would be more of an under center guy.
Wanna say at Lassiter he was pretty much entirely gun but I'm not at all sure about that

Mason did run the spread offense at lassiter.
They weren't a run team. spread passing much like new england.

Yeah I don't watch much high school ball anymore. Whatever they have to do to win.

Why not?We know both are talented and I put them as our 5 and 6 .
It's called depth...it would be stupid not to mention

That's what I had always figured. Don't set those kind of records running a pro style

Exactly and it's kind of refreshing. How many times have we had players and been hell bent on molding them to our style despite the obvious issues? If we need a year to go a bit more gun then I am all for it. Honestly, next year I say we play primarily gun and pistol. Really kinda disappointed in the disappearance of the pistol but with a kid like Mason I think it may make sense to bring it back. And Gurley had already shown an ability to flourish in the pistol as has Marshall.

I'm all for adjusting and tweaking the system to fit current players. What I'm not a fan of, and what one poster has insisted on, is that we completely change our system to fit one player. Bobo is doing this the right way, playing to Mason's strengths.

The last time we won the conference, we ran a spread offense 80% of the time.
Do you like winning conference championships?
If not, just say so.
(We run spread formations about 30% of the time right now, fwiw).

If you watch our tape, you will see that we play out of the gun 90% of the time. Murray gets to decide weather to hand the ball off, throw downfield or screen. We will have usually have 3WRs, 1TE and 1RB. Unbalanced to one side. This gives us the option to run or pass on just about every play, during the play. If a pass play breaks down we can break out into a screen after a certain ammount of time. So, many of our screen plays do not start out that way. Our entire offense is based on how well we run the ball. Usually we are 60-40% pass to run in most games. This will continue more with Mason and we should run more I formation with the FB. Watch from the 2:00 mark and you will see his throw to TG, same formation twice in a row. The screen play was set up by the play before. He had a pass option on the right side and the screen set up on the left. This is what our offense does well. Mason can decide what to do during the play and does it very quickly. Our WR's block very well and this is one of the most important aspects of our offense. LINK

Using the shotgun does not mean we are running a spread offense.
We run the I formation about 30% of the time.
So you exaggerate how much we are in the shotgun.
(I formation doesn't count how often we are under center with a deep tailback. nor does it count how often we are in the pistol).

He lost me at Georgia playing from the shotgun 90% of the time

Mason is supposed to have a stronger arm than Murray. At least that is what I've heard and we can stretch the field with him.

just run a variation of the wing t with Gurley, Marshall, Chubb, and Quayvon in.
Whhooooah there cowboy....that's crazy talk. Why would we ever want to put all those guys in at once? We only do that kind of stuff on super secret bootleg practice tapes.

Let's run it and call it the wild frick yea
Posted on 11/26/13 at 9:12 pm to Damn Good Dawg
After seeing how good Douglas and Green are I'm surprised we didn't start the season with formations that got more of these guys on the field at the same time.
Next year when Marshall is back we'll have what....5 or 6 running backs plus Quayvon? That's a load of talent sitting on the bench.

And I, for one, go 6 to midnight just thinking about it.
I'd like to see a lot of shotgun 2 back sets and some pistol full house where you get 2 backs and quayvon in

I would guess you'll see Green shift to more of a slot receiver/kick return role and Douglas get cross-trained a bit at fullback. Just a guess. I doubt they'll beat out Michel or Chubb.

It's a great thing. After witnessing what happened this year we can't have too many guys ready to go in a moment's notice.
