Sadly, 2004 Auburn was probably better than every team in your list
They would have beaten 98 UT and maybe 07 LSU, but that's about it.

people will get hung up on style (several close wins) but how can people rank that team below teams that actually lost a game?
Well, the only flaw in that season was the defense was porous against the pass. The issues were the East was deplorable and the title game against USC was a laugher. The conference as a whole was down. They just weren't as tested. Still a marvelous season and a fun team, minus Fairley who no one in the SEC outside of the Plains likes.

Lots of teams have gone undefeated, Tennessee was undefeated in 1998 and they weren't particularly great.
Auburn 2010 was not a great team, they were a mediocre team with a great player playing outstanding and catching the right breaks at the right time.

Yea, 2010 was likely the toughest the West ever was.

2004 Auburn barely beat 2004 LSU. I think the 2007 team could have really challenged them, probably even won the game on the road.

Imagine that, all 3 Alabama teams in front of an undefeated '10 AU..
Posted on 10/17/13 at 4:38 pm to skrayper
2010 AU didn't know how to lose or quit. I'm not convinced they wouldn't beat every team in history on sheer lack of quit alone. And, well... Cam Newton....
And Nick Fairley... but according to everyone else, they were all we had....

Think of terms of point spreads Vegas would put out.
2011 Alabama would probably be a favorite over everybody.

You're right - it was clear after that game LSU had no business being in it.

they were lucky they got left out of the title game, USC would have anhilated them.
.. 2004 USC was so overrated.. They nearly lost to several non-bowl eligible teams. Just because they beat up on fricking Oklahoma - habitually overrated - doesn't make them the best ever. They both played Vtech that year, and USC was losing that game at halftime.

People ranking 2008 Florida 4th or worse are seriously underrating just how good that team was on both sides of the ball.
