2003 LSU & 1998 Tennessee are interchangeable, IMHO. LSU played a bit tougher schedule, but UT was undefeated. Most other 1 loss teams played decent enough schedules to rate higher than UT's 1998 squad...

That honor actually belongs to 2003 LSU.

If we're going by best season, you can drop everyone who lost a game down to the bottom. If we're going by who would win a head to head matchup, totally different story.

I'm biased, admittedly, but I think Auburn 2010 vs Bama 2011 would be the best matchup. Bama would probably be favored, but Auburn had the intangibles that year. Would not lose.

98 UT, 06 FLA, and 07 LSU are back of the pack IMO, people remember the NC game against OSU for 2006 FLA and forget how much they struggled in the regular season at times. 2007 LSU lost two games, don't care if they're overtime, and struggled with others as well. Neither team featured a transcendent player like Newton who'd give the edge in a one-game hypothetical matchup.

I'd stick 2010 Auburn, 2011 Bama, 2003 LSU, 2008 Florida in the top 4, and call it about a 50-50 shot for each team against the others.

2003 LSU was top heavy. Their overall opponent winning % wasn't all that impressive.

Agree with the thought that 2010 Auburn belongs in the lower part of the list. That teams was a hair's breath away from losing 4-5 games that year. Outside the beatdown on SC in the SEC championship, they were not a dominating team that year.

Bama 2011- played two good teams that year in Ark and LSU. Lost to LSU at home and did not even win their division. Had six weeks to prepare for a rematch game to win the BCSNC.

Bama 2012- played two good teams that year in LSU and TX A&M. Lost to A&M at home when they were a double-digit favorite. Had 6 weeks to prepare for an overhyped ND team. (ARK, TN, AU had their worse teams in their history)

What other team on the list had to play .500 ball againt good competition and still got to play for a NC?

1998 Vols have the most proven NFL talent.

Jamaal Lewis(NFL MVP, NFL All Decade Team, AFC Player of the Year), Travis Stephens, Travis Henry(Multiple Pro Bowls). No other SEC champion comes within a mile of that backfield.

Chad Clifton(All Pro LT), Al Wilson (All Pro LB), Leonard Little(All Pro DE - Rams All Time Team), Shaun Ellis(Multiple Pro Bowls), Cedrick Wilson, Donte Stallworth, Deon Grant.

When someone lists an NFL MVP and 4 other All Pro players we'll start having this discussion. Any team with a loss is automatically below an undefeated team.

That "championship" is invalid as they had no right to be in the game. Otherwise sans the obvious Auburn dis the rankings look solid.

You don't know football very well if you think anyteam on that list was close to Bama 2011 , we won games by like 28 points a game margins , not running up scores.

Are you fricking serious Clark?

2011 Alabama had the best defense out of the 3 listed Alabama teams, possibly the second best out of the 9 total teams. The problem with that was, the offense was not up to par with the 2009 team who were always a run away from knocking on the door. That 2009 team had the toughest schedule in the country and still came out on top of the heap. So you're damn wrong if you don't believe they deserve to be at the top of the list.

I'd take the 2009 team any day over 2011/2012, but I'd take the 1992 team over any other.

don't feel like reading the whole thread so someone just answer me this;

eff Tennessee and all, but what was so weak about their undefeated 1998 team?

It's simple. It was long enough ago that all people remember is Stoerner.
