Why Isn't Les Miles Name Thrown Around More?

The UT job opened up.. We heard Sabans name often (granted he is arguably the best college football coach ever, so not too much of a shock)

The USC job opened up.. Franklin and Sumlin were brought up..

Just 2 examples here I am sure there have been other coaching vacancies.

Why isnt Miles name thrown into the ring more often?

He has LSU playing as a contender year in and year out. He's very entertaining. Passionate coach. Great recruiter.

What gives? I know obviously if you had the chance to take Saban or Sumlin they would be first choices, but Miles should at least be on the short list after that.

Is it his legendary speeches and explanations that is offputting to executive boards? Us fans love them, no doubt. Is it the way he handled the offseason problems? And the problems he has faced in the past? Does he simply have a contract with the devil to stay at LSU forever?

Someone help me here!

He is a Michigan man and the Michigan job has been available twice while he was at LSU. Guess where he still is?

His name doesn't come up because he isn't going anywhere. He is at a premiere location with premiere recruiting.

No other job is a attractive as LSU, for if Lil' Nicky would have been smart enough to not be lead away by the NFL. we would not even be having this thread right now. And Les knows that. Taking another School = Mistake.

Public perception is part of it maybe, plus UM approaches, twice. If he were to leave it would have been there. He's 60 (in November), not going anywhere.

Good question. I know Miles was brought up when Michigan had a vacancy. I think Miles is a good coach; not great or elite though. He has a great job at LSU and wins there consistently.

It's simple. The USC and Texas jobs need a complete purge like Bama needed. Michigan for example did not. Miles is not a Nick Saban in your face tear it down build it up. Miles is perfect for taking over a program that needs to take off from where it is. Sumlin iis a sexy young coach pick which would be more risky but a good risk. Miles and Saban are in the Twilight of their careers, Sumlin is just getting started which is also attractive but a risk.

He's a moron... He could succeed at Nebraska maybe... It'd have to be a program where all the instate talent flocks to his school cause if he had to recruit against another coach instate he'd do terrible.. I mean, after an official visit to both schools the kid's gonna get back home and his parents will ask, "Well Keyshawnvillanana, do you want to go to the school where the coach promised you early playing time or do you wanna go play for the guy in the cap that suffers from Asperger's ?"

Really... would you want this clown running your program?

I think Miles is great for a laugh but could never imagine him as a head coach of real program.

He's perfect for LSU. LSU is the crazy drunk Uncle of college football.

Les Miles epitomizes this.

Who would want him? He hasn't won anything with his own talent. Nick Saban deserves the 07 trophy more than Les Miles.

Because the last time his name was thrown around about a job he verbally abused Herbstreit on TV.

And this is incorrect, but I feel like the perception of Miles is that he's not the kind of coach that can come into a program and turn it around in 2-3 years.

so you think k sumlin is a better coach than les miles? sumlin, in his first year at aggieville, inherited one hell of an offense, GREAT OL, GREAT QB, GREAT RB, GREAT WR. the D was serviceable but somewhat weak. he went 10-2 and now he's mentioned in the same breath as nick saban? this year the man has Jff and a great OL and an very weak schedule that contains only two tough opponents. he lost to tough opponent #1 and contrary to aggie fans the game against #2 is not a shoo in. imo, sumlin would be an idiot not to go to the NFL if offered a decent situation (no raiders). miles, of course, was adamantly accused of winning with sabans players yet I HAVE NOT HEARD ONE PERSON ACCUSE SUMLIN OF WINNING WTH SHERMANS PLAYERS. and now, it is ASSUMED sumlin is the second greatest coach around and mentioned in the same breath as saban. and he hasn't even won the west yet, much less the sec or the nc. miles has won all of that.

Because he's passed up Michigan twice , and he's so out of his mind that he just fits in at LSU.
