Agree on both points

And that's not to say that y'all haven't EARNED the right to be arrogant--y'all most definitely have. But there's consequences to that, and those could have been handled better for the sake of y'all's continued success, IMO.

But unfortunately it is truth, looking at the current roster there is atleast 10 or more players that have had a relative that played directly for o butter teeth, and out of those most did not hold offers from any other major school.

I honestly didn't realize it was that rampant outside of the McCoy and Shipley brothers. That's unreal.

Legacy is cool and everything, but if little brother can't play, he shouldn't get in because of the name on his back, IMO.

True! When you figure his product endorsements such as Coca Cola, Ford Trucks, Golden Flake, etc, etc he probably is raking in $20 Mil+++ Well worth it...

The sense of entitlement that surrounds [the Longhorn] program will take years to overcome. I don't see Saban leaving Bama regardless of how much money is thrown his way. It makes no sense for him to leave a sure thing to come and try and turn around a program that is still a few years away from hitting rock bottom (which needs to happen before any significant change can happen).

My observation of NS is that he relishes in the fact that he is considered by many to be the greatest CFB coach of all-time and the risk of going to Texas and failing outweighs the reward of winning another NC with a 3rd team.

Probably the most-accurate post on this entire thread.

I would add the fact that Texas fans are not known for their patience. If Saban were to move to Austin and if he were to fail to produce a National Championship within a VERY few years, the "faithful" would be calling for his head in record time ... especially if they were to be paying him the sums that are being discussed.

With that being said, the location of texas university ("t.u.") in Austin IS a draw for a college-bound kid. Compare to Austin to College Station (not unlike T-town). My grandfather was Class of '37 at TAMU, and my father played ball for Coach Royal, so I had something of a "legacy" either way. All other things being equal, I would have gone to t.u. BECAUSE of Austin. (All other things were not equal. The economy was weak and TAMU offered me about 3x the scholarship money. So, I am an Aggie, but I hit Austin for law school. Three years of pure fun.)

those are product endorsements to pay for his salary, he only actually gets a couple hundred thousand from the school, the rest of the 5 or 6 million is from those companies mentioned plus others

Texas is definitely the best job in the country. If the right coach slides in there..

It's been a while since the right coach has slid into that position. In the last 40 years they've only won a single national championship.

if Texas really is offering 10 million (or whatever) Saban is a dummy for not taking it

the guy already probably has 50 million plus in assets. if invested properly, he already has enough money that he and his family will never be forced to work for generations. At alabama he is in control of the whole program, from water boys to boosters. At texas they want someone who is going to be political, lick boots, etc.. Thats the real reason i think there is 0% chance he goes there. The fat old white guys who will be coming up with 10million a year are going to give it to a guy who will essentially kick them out of the program? i dont think so. The fact that they have kept an inept guy like mack brown around so long speaks volumes of how much influence the boosters have with texas

That's where you are wrong. The fat old white guys are no longer pulling the strings. The movers and shakers are relatively new to the "power" scene. They are the ones who are responsible for Mack's & Dodds' departures. Winning is their primary focus. Business as usual will be gone soon. Look for a complete overhaul of the athletic department - and don't be surprised about anyone they might hire. These guys know the lay of the land. They are not naive enough to expect any coach follow in Mack's footsteps. They are all successful business people - ceo's etc. They are goal oriented and have already laid out their plans. The old ways at UT will be gone.

Neither Dodds or Mack will have any sayso about the new hires - both are the lamest of ducks already.

Everyone here has his own personal bias against one team or another, as far as which program is the best in college football. But none of the talking heads, from SVP to everyone on ESPN's college football group to national sports journalists are saying that bama is the best job in college football. USC, UT, ND, O.State are all mentioned as being in the top 1 thru 5 jobs; none mention bama. bama is where it is now because of NS, remove him & the red elephants will still be good, but nowhere near as dominating as they are now. So, it's obvious NS makes it great, not the program itself. Just repeating what I am hearing all day long & not espousing any personal beliefs.

as much as I'd love to see saban take his talents elsewhere, I cannot see any substantiated reason to leave Bama.

1. Complete Control
2. Recruiting is a breeze
3. 6 mil a year
4. Best facilities
5. God-like status
6. Best conference in football

Texas has 2,3,4 covered and that's it. 1 and 5 are what drives Nick Saban

Agree... Bear Bryant would have had success at
other schools and ditto for Saban. Clemson's coach played for BAMA and would be someone
who could do well as Saban's successor.

As for Texas big wigs involvement in the football
program, what do you think Paul Jr. and the REC
were doing before Saban was hired? NS put a stop to that.+

If he takes the job at UT it will not be a money thing, however, if it was, Texas would win that battle.

Unless Saban is taking a job at JerryWorld then he is staying in AL

Texas is only five times bigger than Alabama. UT is the preferred destination for most Texas recruits. That is the main reason why it is such a good job. Even Alabama loses in-state recruiting battles to Auburn on occassion.
