You LSU guys need to slow your roll. Credit you beat them last year, but wait to play them before you celebrate this seasons victory.

OMG you are so right.

I don't want to get caught looking ahead. I might miss a defensive assignment like Alabama's entire defense did.

So Evans had 279 yards because he's 6ft 7? No, because our defense let him run by us. Being 6ft 7 doesn't mean anything when you're wide open.

LSU???

Who TF said anything about LSU? Your existence is noted. Please stay on topic.

The OP and another bama fan said they had problems in the secondary because they couldn't cover a slow WR like Evans. Speed, like LSU in this thread, got nothing to do with it. Name the other 6-7 WR that bama will face this year on a team with a similar offense to A&M and with a better defense.

I'll wait.

You think this offense can't score 24-27 on LSU?

I may have missed it, but I never saw him "wide open" the whole game.

And, yes. He is only 6-5, which is probably about 7 inches taller than every CB on Bama's roster.

Which is easily fixed. DB's were looking in the backfield, had their hands down on the line playing man, safeties were playing out of position. Expecting that will happen every game is a little "the sky is falling" mentality. Yes, they played horrible against the Aggies. Some of it was the talent and size of the Aggie WR's and some of it was the size of their Oline giving JFF time to make throws. Oregon is a smaller team on the line than the Aggies, and wouldn't have the success the Ags did. Bama will play better against more traditional offenses. Could the lose to Lsu? Sure. Lsu has tons of talent and good coaching. Would it be because Bama sucks? No.

We're not great, no question. I would finish that sentence with the word 'yet' however.

Lot of ball to be played.

Correct. He had 5 to 6 inches on any defender that tried to cover him. They were in close proximity to him every pass, just had their backs to the ball or to him when the catch was made.

Let's wait for a larger sample size. After the Virginia Tech game there were many people praising our defense, especially our secondary, for the way they dominated a very bad Hokie offense. They also said our offense was beyond anemic. Two weeks later, everyone's saying our defense is shite and that our offense is amazing.

There is way too much knee-jerk reaction going around for my taste. I'm going to wait until we get a LITTLE deeper into the season before I pass final judgement on the quality of our team.

Wow, a thread where Bammer fans are giving their actual opinions as opposed to sarcastic homerism. Most of the time they avoid the subject matter of the op and point out their past accomplishments. This is good stuff, upvote

I don't know what game you watched, but the only catch Evans had when he was wide open was the 95 yard TD, and that was because JFF had all day to throw and Evans came back to him on a improvised route. Fulton was all over Evans and so was belue, Evans just caught passes against Fulton cause they were 4 feet over Fultons head.

This.

I don't know of another offense, other than Oregon, that compares to A&M's. It was going to be a high-scoring game. The trick is to....

...wait for it....

....wait.....

.....score more points than the other team.

Alabama won the game, and beat arguably the best offense in the nation. Alabama out-JFFed JFF. I don't see why some are hitting the panic button. If Alabama plays Oregon or a similar team, they already have the formula to win and those teams don't have a stable of receivers that could each play small forward.

Evans wasn't wide open torching our DB's all game long.

I don't understand what you expect out of this thread? Do you want Bama fans to say this defense sucks? That our coaches suck at preparing our team to compete?

We've played a total of two games, the offense didn't play well in the first game - and the coaches fixed that problem and we saw much improved offense in game two. The defense didn't play well in the 2nd game against the reigning heisman winning QB and a WR that looked like Wilt Chamberlaine vs our DBs.

Trust this coaching staff to fix the problem area's, it's not like they haven't done it dozens of times before in the past 6 yrs.

I checked rosters too. Oregon overall is about 15 to 20 lbs lighter on average than the Ag's Oline, so I could see more pressure on their QB, and their receivers don't have near the size. Their tallest starter is 5'11"

6'7 explains the jump balls...but not him running 95 yards and hardly being touched...

Not an excuse for the horrible DB play but Belue was injured in the 1st Q.

Geno Smith was/is in the doghouse.

Evans is a matchup issue for any DB. Belue struggled finding the ball much like Fulton did early last yr...however by seasons end Belue was noticibly better.

Watch the play from the endzone

You'll see the DB beat off the line and the Safety on the complete opposite side of the field.
