As southern states catch up with the rest of the nation economically, socially, and educationally will football's role in our society decrease? I personally think that it will but I hope it doesn't.

Nope, football has been king in Texas for as long as anyone can remember, and Texas is a national leader in like every category positive and negative.

Well that's just because Texas is it's own nation...

I don't see a gradual decrease in interest. If anything, the fate of football will be from some kind of "big bang" such as China's eventual owning of us or a massive economic collapse that will simply render football and other leisure activities inconsequential because simple survival will take precedent.

The warm weather and good business climate in the South will keep attracting people to the region. This will just mean more potential football players. The interest won't diminish either. People moving to the area tend to get hooked on college football. If not, they have nothing to talk about with their friends and co workers.

I think there is still a stereotype of the Deep South stemming from the racial tensions of the past. Even with that stigma, the best players still migrate south to SEC schools. However, I have no doubt that there are still a segment of recruits who won't move south due to that stereotype...especially black players living in norther and western states with parents who harbor ill feelings from the days of segregation.
As southern states continue to develop, become more sophisticated, and grow further from those days, I believe that the SEC will even become a larger magnet for elite players. We're talking about a slow process over the next 20 years.
Just my opinion.

Bread and circus like in Rome. It's not really going anywhere, it keeps people from focusing on the golden rule (he who has the gold makes the rules.)
