It's not because of flat screen TV's.
It's because the cheapest endzone upper deck tickets for UGA-LSU and UGA-SC are $190 per ticket on Stub Hub.

Add on parking costs, concession costs, and everything else.
I actually think parking is the number one issue- here, at least, you have to pay $20 or something to park a mile away. On campus spaces should be open and free, with a designated handicapped lot

At least $20 of that is directly attributable to the first year contract that Bama gave Saban.

no
that implies there is not an attendance problem

I've heard the NFL has an attendance problem, but I'm not aware of an attendance problem for CFB.

Unless its a huge game, I'd rather watch the game on a 65 inch led.

More hops have recently been added to busch lite.

I remember getting a ticket outside Tiger Stadium for LSU-Alabama in 2000 for $50 and it was mind boggling to me that I paid that much for a ticket to a football game. It was by far the most I had ever paid

Reminds me of Yogi Berra's quote about a restaurant: "No one goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

It's because Ole Miss fans are poor and they can't afford a $20 ticket if it was given to them.

Don't blame the prices. Just free market economy at work.

It's a combination of gigantic high def flat screen tv's being so cheap everyone has an awesome one and ticket prices going through the roof, far beyond the pace of inflation.
Face value for Alabama tickets was like $40/$50 about a decade ago and are like $75/$85 now. It's almost doubled in a little over 10 years. Other schools have had similiar increases, at least % wise.
And that's just face value which very few people actually end up payign. Season ticket holders pay a premium on top of that and the aftermarket sales are normally at least double face, if not more.
Universities are also charging a pretty penny for parking, tailgating spots, etc. A lot of these things used to be free too.
For a family (or a couple) to go to a major game you're looking at a $300+ investment minimum, more for the big games. There are enough people willing to pay this.
However the number of people willnig to pay that much to watching you beat Podunk State by 45 points is much smaller.

I agree, but people will pay it.
The problem is not the cost of the actual ticket, it's the scalped cost of the actual ticket.
Club fans are trying to recoup their entire seating license cost by prorating their spare ticket allotment to scalpers.
I can buy eight tickets for every game, my four primaries and my four secondaries. Everyone that sits around me does the same.
I've had the same four primary tickets lower level west near the 45 yard line for a few decades.
I invested in South upper mezzanine level when they finished that expansion in the 90s.
I could, if I wanted to, recoup the cost of the south endzone tickets PLUS pay for my four primary seating licenses by scalping my south endzone tickets ... if I wanted.
Unfortunately I have a large family of grown kids who abuse the good-natured tendencies of their Pop.

Umm... the official capacity of Kyle Field is 82,589. The lowest attendance of 6 home games last year was Arkansas (I suspect because of the terrible weather) at 86,422.
So I'm having a bit of trouble following the OP's premise
Interestingly, this came out today from the A&M AD:
So I guess if high prices do become a problem, this might help keep attendance up.
So I'm having a bit of trouble following the OP's premise
Interestingly, this came out today from the A&M AD:
quote:
***IMPORTANT**** Resale of student tickets/sports options for profit is prohibited. Student sports options are heavily subsidized by season ticket holders. Former Students and Aggie fans have long been committed to maintaining the quality and size of the student allotment at Kyle Field. In return, Texas A&M students, the 12th Man, are expected to honor this commitment by not reselling for profit their student tickets. These tickets, home and away, are for student use ONLY. Texas A&M students are prohibited from reselling sports options/student tickets (home or road) for profit. Students found to be in violation of this policy will be penalized. Penalties include the cancellation of sports options, cancellation of tickets already pulled, and the loss of sports option privileges for the duration of their Texas A&M career.
So I guess if high prices do become a problem, this might help keep attendance up.
