Probably because even in his "bad games" against UT and Michigan he managed to have game winning forced fumbles and a fumble recovering.

And to the OP that said he's never lead the SEC in any stats- he lead FF his freshman season.

Is Clowney overhyped? Maybe
Is Clowney overrated? No. He will draw double and triple teams all season long because of what he can do.

No he is not overrated. He will be the #1 pick in next year's NFL Draft, regardless of how much me may or may not mail this season in.

This is such a dumb post.

Teams don't scheme to put 3 players on Clowney.
They scheme to protect the QB. If they have max protect and the South Carolina only sends 4, you will see 2 guys on Clowney and one guy spying in front of the QB. If Clowney beats the two guys, then he will see the third.

If teams have max protect and South Carolina sends the blitz, Clowney may only have the offensive tackle blocking him. That's how it works.

Those are all big IFs.
It's not like the OC is telling the offensive linemen to ignore other players because of Clowney's superhuman abilities.

This. I obviously love the attention we're getting by him playing here but even I'm getting tired of seeing his hit by now.

He's made plenty of other special plays besides it that no one else ever wants to show or talk about.

What he said made perfect sense.

He was talking hypothetically, not even about the UGA/USC game.

Looks to me like you're the shite poster.

Clowney doesn't play every down it's very obvious. IF he did, he would have 3-4 sacks a game. Seriously when he actually goes, I don't think he can be blocked Don't know why he just kind of disappears so often though I noticed it several times last year. Dudes got the potential to be the best DE in the NFL very early in his career though after the draft.

There hasnt been one rustled response in this entire thread, just good debate back and forth. It seems to me more dawg fans are aggravated than anything, and some jizz jar fan taking a break from jff's ballzack to try and flame.

You should reevaluate your definition of rustled jimmies.

Everybody takes plays off during games. Shite Murray, Gurley,Marshall, and pretty much ga's entire defense disappeared during USC/GA game last season

If a guys getting a lot of pub there's no need to get upset about it. Heck you just took the time to make a thread about the man if he's overrated its your fault and your adding to his legendary status.

As far as counting sack totals what difference does it make if 4.5 of his 13 sacks came in one game nobody cares about that because it's irrelevant.

If AJ or Murray throws 30td's and 6 of them came in one game does that mean they didn't do anything in the other 12 or 13 because of that one game???

Even if you use this logic he still recorded a sack in almost every game except for 4 not to mention he didn't even play the week before the Clemson game

I wouldn't exactly call that disappearing in fact that's pretty damn effective for a d-lineman if you ask me people talk like the man is an outside linebacker

Brad Lawing is one reason Clowney didn't have the sack numbers. Same with Devin Taylor. Adams will let these guys be much more agressive this season. Brad just has a different philosophy. Clowney is a 6'6" 276lb Defensive end that runs a 4.46 40 and has an unreal first step
step

Guess how more over hype he's going to get if he makes one more lucky hit this year? He will never shine in any meaningful stats in that conference! Good. Yes. The Media is doing the kid a dis-service :(

Clowney takes over games single-handedly. He throws offenses totally out of sync all by himself. It's not all about statistics when deciding how good a player is. It's about the impact they have on the game. No, I don't think he's overrated at all.

He's talented, definitely. Not really overrated, but his hype is not warranted. Calling him the best player is ridiculously he's not even the best player in the SEC. He was overhyped coming out of high school and he still is in college. Too many expectations were put on him ahead of his actual debut and its been that way ever since. Doesn't crack the top 10 SEC defensive players of all time either.

Okay, now I'm just trolling at this point
