Long-term success is very hard to predict because so much of a recruits decision is based on coaches, current success, and championship possibilities. Rank your SEC schools best built for long term success factoring in location, recruiting competition, academics, campus, tradition and all other things that aren't prone to drastic change anytime soon.

My opinion:
1)LSU - No major in-state competition for recruits, more NFL players per capita than any other state, large following in east Texas, great stadium, huge fan base, decent tradition.

2)Georgia - Great talent level in state, above average academics, great campus, great city, biggest program in its state, good tradition, can grab recruits from state of Florida.

3)Florida - Location, Location, Location. Currently the state of Florida is stacked every year, even if they get out recruited by FSU some years and if out of state teams can get players from the state, UF will still be left with more than enough good athletes. Also, big stadium, multiple NCs.

4)Alabama - Above average talent in the state of Alabama, and they will always be big brother (sorry auburn). Great campus, huge stadium, ridiculously passionate fan base, great tradition. However, they have to be able to recruit Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, or Texas to have very high level success.

5)Texas A&M - High ranking also has alot to do with location, Texas has ridiculous number of good athletes every year. However they have to compete with UT every year and even LSU now. Very hard to really project A&M without seeing them in the SEC but one year.

6)South Carolina - Small state, but has produced a lot of talent lately. Has to compete with ACC schools and SEC east schools for the big time recruits. No tradition at all

7)Auburn - Really nice campus, and a huge following within the state. A lot of tradition, but nothing like Bama's. Has to compete with SEC east and West schools for recruits, but Alabama has above average talent

8)UT - nice campus, biggest stadium in the SEC, great tradition of winning, huge fan base. However, there aren't enough big time recruits in the state for them to not need to go out of state and compete with other big time schools around them.

9)Vandy - Nashville is a great city, academics unrivaled in the SEC. However, in state recruits choose UT over them and even UT needs to go out of state. Small stadium, no tradition.

10)Ole Miss - in state recruits will choose them over MSU but the recruits are limited and the top level in-state guys often choose other schools, completely surrounded by SEC schools. Good base in Memphis, Decent tradition, passionate fans, but they will always have a bad stigma to African American football players especially with the presence of the rebel flag. I can't remember the title of the book but there was a book written about Ole Miss recruiting when Orgeron was there and the book talks about how much of a struggle it was to get rid of that bad stigma. Its often a question from African American recruits parents.

11)Arkansas - Not nearly enough recruits in state to be able to stay in state. High level in state recruits leave the state.

12)Kentucky - not enough in state talent, average tradition, always a basketball school first

13)Missouri - no in state talent, competes with Big 12 schools for less than SEC talent. No tradition. Good academics...?

14)MSU - little brother to Ole Miss, not enough in state talent, can't compete recruiting with OM AU UA LSU. Small stadium, average academics, no tradition. Biggest jumbo screen...?

Hard to predict A&M and Mizzou. Just my rankings. Thoughts?

UG and LSU at the top, they have no legitimate competition in the state.

no they don't. that hasn't happened consistently since croom or orgeron. see these threads suck because for every 4 teams you know a good bit about, there are 12 more you are basically in the dark about.

And MS has plenty of in-state talent. I think they're #2 behind LA for NFL players per capita.

Not really. I don't think you are giving the high school talent in Alabama enough credit. As long as we recruit here, Fl, and GA at the level we currently are, we are fine.

Stopped. Reading.

I would put Bama at #1 cause in order to beat them you have to outcoach Saban and his staff and that's not going to happen... So basically their players have to play poorly and not execute and give the game away via big plays and TOs... That rarely happens... LSU used to be #1, when Saban was their coach... Miles wont win another MNC with his players... He had his one chance... But the Tigahs probably wont play for another as long as Les is there calling the shots.

Considering Alabama has had consistent success since 1892 I'd say they have the track record that puts them at the top of the list. LSU has only done it for a decade.

I suppose that, despite the fact that Alabama indisputably has had more long-term success than any other SEC program, it's about to suddenly change and they'll drop to #4. The past 120 years are no indicator.

You don't say. So what took lsu so long if they're best suited for long term success? Obvious answer is obvious, it's Alabama. Tradition is something that can never be taken away. Alabama has proven over and over that when they're down it isn't for long, and when they're up they're dominant. You can throw the rest of that bullshite about location and competition out the window, the proof is in the pudding

The thing that's going to make things interesting in a few years is that Tennessee is starting to produce more and more HS talent. Already, SEC and top schools from all of the country are recruiting our kids but it's going to heat up in a few years -- that's why Jones is constantly talking about building a wall around the state. The amount of HS talent really has gone up dramatically.

This has been false for nearly a decade now. Top MS guys go to Ole Miss or State way more often than they leave Mississippi.

Meat Market by Bruce Feldman, and he's right to an extent. Once players actually visit campus, that stigma largely disappears. It's getting them to visit that's the hard part (especially when they have recruiters for opposing SEC schools bullshitting them about how WAYCESS Ole Miss is).

long term success- I would like to think Texas A&M is at the top; they have a huge recruit base, and their in-state competition is not sec; I think they will pull more and more 4+star in state recruits

Also, if past success is an indication:

LSU has missed going to a bowl game TWICE since 1994.
In 16 of the last 18 seasons, LSU has had a winning record and gone to a bowl game, winning 11 of those 16 bowl games.
In addition, LSU has finished in the Final Top Ten 9 times since 1996.
Wew have also been to the BCSNCG three times, winning it all twice, and gone to the SECCG 5 times, winning it 4 times.

NO OTHER SEC team can match all these accomplishments in the last 20 years.
