Is Ellis Johnson a better defensive coordinator than Kirby Smart?

I know Southern Miss agrees.

He has a pretty good track record as a DC.

I doubt it.
We would know for sure when Kirby Smart took over a defense while not under Nick Saban, though.

This is a stupid thread. There is no way to compare. Kirby has had mega success in his short time as a defensive coordinator at Bama. Johnson has had a long career. How about we revisit this thread in 25 years.

I like how Johnson toed the party line and said that the Gus O would help his D.

We were really pleased with the job he did when Dubose was coach. That 3-8 Alabama team in 2000 was one for the ages.

Hw has been solid every where he has been. Not a one hit wonder so to say.

Well considering Nicky is running that defense, yes

Ellis Johnson was Alabama's defensive coordinator under Dubose. We were pretty terrible for most of his stay. In 1999, we were solid in the front seven, but the secondary was awful. Anytime Bama faced a decent quarterback, it was a train wreck. Would not trade 1 Kirby Smart for 10 Ellis Johnsons.... Hope this helps....

One of those is a first choice when there's an open position and the other is a short term gap filler, and always has been. One perspective to consider.

Was this a drug-induced thread? Were you high?

It's true that Kirby is running the Nick Saban version of the multiple 3-4 defense but it's a great scheme to learn and Kirby knows the system, instills game plans and calls the plays from the sideline. Good luck with Ellis but I'd take Kirby over him all day.
