Devonta Pollard and Trevor Lacey were both 5* guys. We also just recruited two big guys. I think it is the coaching more than anything.

I'm not an expert, but how young is the team? Seems like it's more the personnel than scheme.

Wasn't Lacey a 4/5star (depending on service). I know Cal wanted him, but we had Teague.

I think Anthony Grant is probably the best Bama can do. That doesn't mean he's doing a good job, though. Someone needs to make him hire an assistant with an offensive mentality.

Hey, around year 1 or 2 we thought AG was better than sliced bread also. Look at us now.

Florida, OSU, Texas etc are football-first schools that have pretty solid basketball programs. Alabama has the money, we just need the fans to give a damn and stop putting up with mediocre bball because the football team is awesome.
I'll admit I don't really care about basketball, so I am part of this problem before anyone states the obvious.

Ok, like who?
What makes you think Anthony Grant is so good? Do you really think he isn't easily replaceable? He has gotten you to the tournament once in 4 years now as coach and you didn't even win a game when you got there. Shaka Smart is better, sounds dumb, but you could hire yet another VCU coach except get the better one this time around. Look what Miami got from Jim Larranaga in just year TWO this year...they are paying him just 1.3 mil. Bama can do better than going to the tourney once in a 4 year period and not even winning a game.

Im not trolling. Johnny Jones is only getting 1.1 mil and look what he's done in just 1 year between results on the court and in recruiting.

quote:excellent point. Jones might not be anyone's flavor of the month, but he understands how LSU's program works from the inside out. He's maximizing the talent currently on the team, has an exciting style of play, and is bringing in a top 5 recruiting crop.

If you brought in another big name outsider, you risk running into the same problems we had with Trent Johnson- no awareness of the politics either at the athletic department, or the state as a whole; he might bring a sound but boring style of play and bore what fans remain; and be unable to recruit either bigtime players or his own style of players to Bama.

Devonta Pollard is horrible and any service that rated him 5stars should lose all credibility. I dont know how he was a McDonald's all American.
Grant will never land elite prospects like Gerald Wallace, Mo Williams, Kennedy Winston, Richard Hendrix, Ron Steele, etc. He doesn't have the booster support to do so. Also the state also put out a lot more talent the first half of last decade.

Maybe, but that is very easy to just say.

Johnny Jones? What exactly has he done at LSU this year? Yall will probably make it the NIT. If that is the success you are looking for, then okay, but that is a horrible example in the context of this conversation.

Grant having you in 2nd place in the SEC not good enough?

quote:I agree, but since he has been here, we have shown signs of improvement every year except this year. We also lost a ton of guys from last year, so that is not too unexpected. What he needs to do is bring someone in who know offense because it is clear he does not have a clue.

UA may be 2, but that is a meaningless ranking.
We are not a good team, and that isn't acceptable.

Are you seriously implying lsu has a good basketball team??

Like it or not, Jones is the better coach.
For example, and I know this is something you understand, look at recruiting.

I mean yeah in all reality that's probably assisted by a fairly easy SEC schedule, but nonetheless you've capitalized on it. Y'all played us pretty well at our place.
