Some of you people are really bitter little nerds.

This trademark stuff began in the fall because if Johnny and his family do not stop people from selling and profiting off his likeness it will result in serious eligibility issues for him.

HE HAS NO CHOICE but to do this if he wishes to continue playing ball. Does anyone really think JFF is going to become rich from some damages from a guy selling a few t-shirts online? Hell no, he will most likely never see a dime, however a ruling in his favor will establish a precedent in his favor and stop everyone and their dog from trying to make money off him and his name.

I don't really have a problem with the lawsuit but Manziel has come off as a huge arse lately. Getting real big for his britches.

Johnny Football has been used well before Manziel was even born.

A&M fans are just defending him because Manziel is their QB.

This move is a bit petty. I understand why he did it though I guess. I can't wait for this guy's spotlight moment to end. He is making himself look like an a-hole this offseason.

Bama has a history of nicknames for their players and coaches. I don't remember any of them suing.

"Bear" Bryant; "Snake" Stabler; "Broadway Joe" or "Joe Willie" Namath, "Deuce" Palmer, "Italian Stallion" Musso, "Mount Cody".

Older players - "Bully" Van de Graaff; "Football Freddie" Sington; "Wu" Winslett; Johnny "Hurri" Cain; "Dixie" Howell; "Tarzan" White; John “Hog” Hannah; "The Wizard of Oz," Newsome; Cornelius "Biscuit" Bennett.

And presently, Eddie "Circle Button" Lacy.

All this suing is going to take the fun out of football.

Could this be a way around paying a player and getting away with it? Booster finds someone to earn a bunch of money off an athlete's name, then athlete gets $$$ from court legally

The lawsuit asks the court to award damages for the unlawful sale of the "Johnny Football" T-shirts. Texas A&M's compliance office recently received a ruling from the NCAA that a student-athlete can keep financial earnings as a result of a legal action.

Hmm. So, Manziell can't make money off the sale of merchandise with his name on it, but if someone else does, he can sue them for the ill-gotten profits and keep the money? I wonder if Manziell and Vaughn cooked this up together? Sounds like a nice loophole in the NCAA rules.

I think he's a heck of a player, and I've enjoyed watching him, but this is a douche move.

The spotlight has turned ole Johnny Football into a douche. I have no respect for him now, and hope he gets teabagged by Bama in week 2.

It's a compliance issue. The university is required to ensure that no one makes money off of any student-athlete or their likeness.

Call him a douche if you want -> 0 fricks given.

But know that it's something that must be regulated by the university at the very least. As you can see by now, the same thing happened with Mathieu.. and he wasn't even the originator of the 'honey badger' fad.

Also

quote:

According to NCAA bylaw 12.5.2.2, “If a student-athlete’s name or picture appears on commercial items (e.g., T-shirts, sweatshirts, serving trays, playing cards, posters) or is used to promote a commercial product sold by an individual or agency without the student-athlete’s knowledge or permission, the student-athlete (or the institution acting on behalf of the student-athlete) is required to take steps to stop such an activity in order to retain his or her eligibility for intercollegiate athletics.”

Not sure why Manziel cares about the money from this lawsuit considering he owns prime real-estate in the domes of every poster on the rant.
