ESPN Says:

All three for Bama were #1 vs #2. Everyone focuses on the win loss record, but this is an important point.

Best fans: Legion Field might as well have been Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The Ole Miss fans showed up in force, setting a BBVA Compass Bowl attendance record. Just through the Ole Miss ticket office, Ole Miss fans gobbled up more than 23,000 tickets, and the Rebels rewarded them with a 38-17 beatdown of Pittsburgh.
Worst fans: Somebody must have forgotten to tell the Florida fans what day the Sugar Bowl was. Then again, maybe they all stayed out on Bourbon Street. That’s OK, because the team didn’t show up, either, in the 33-23 loss to Louisville.

Only one of its three title-clinching wins came in an actual 1 vs. 2 game (the infamous 62-24 beatdown of Florida in '95). In both '94 (Penn State) and '97 (Michigan) the Cornhuskers avoided facing undefeated Big Ten teams that were ranked No. 1 or 2, instead beating No. 3 Miami (10-1) in the Orange Bowl in '94 and No. 3 Tennessee (11-1) in that same bowl in '97.

the fact that UF sold 7000 Sugar Bowl tickets was fricking pathetic.

And all 3 of Nebraska's were undefeated, to bama's 1.

that 1995-1997 Cornhuskers team may be the most dominant football team I have ever seen play
just sayin

We all usually travel well, Florida only selling 7000 is crazy though. Blame the matchup I guess.

I'm a huge Bama fan, but the best college football team I've ever seen was the 1995 Cornhuskers. I'm happy Bama is being compared to that team, but I haven't forgotten how great they were. They were brutal.

My respect factor for Ole Miss went way up based on this alone. Way to turn out, and represent on the field.
Florida? Not so much.

And all 3 of Nebraska's were undefeated, to bama's 1.
Former Nebraska player Grant Wistrom has actually come out and said that their Nebraska teams would be hard-pressed to do that if they had played in today's era.
quote:
The Huskers’ 60-3 record from 1993-97 remains the greatest five-year stretch in college football history. Alabama is 61-7 since 2008.
Grant Wistrom, who played defensive end on all three of Osborne’s title teams, said the 1990s Huskers would be hard-pressed to beat the 21st-century Tide.
“It’s only been 15 years, but it’s a faster game now,” Wistrom said. “We dominated back then, but I don’t know if our teams would have had the success (Alabama’s) had now. It’s tough to do what they’ve done in this day and age — not that it was easy for us back then.”

im sorry, not a single one of these bama teams have been considered one of the greatest of all time. like all 3 of the teams that nebraska won with. hell, the 1995 team is considered THE greatest of all time by many people. so no, the cornhusker dynasty of the mid 90s>>>>the current bama dynasty

95 Nebraska team was the best I've ever seen. And yes Florida fans are very fair weathered folks, but Florida State and Miami fans are the same way.

'97 Nebraska split the title with Michigan who won the AP. And back then the AP mattered.
I think the BCS started in '98.
Bama's titles are unanimous.
I think you can argue that one individual team was better than the other, sure. But I think history will be kinder to the Bama run than the Rant.

My cousin played for the Huskers in that time. It was the first Mizzou game I ever went to.
Had great seats, wore Mizzou shite, got heckled in my own stadium. It laid the groundwork for the Mizzou fan I became.
Thank God for the Huskers.

quote:Not a good showing but making the Sugar Bowl isn't the pinnacle of modern Florida football achievement either. The fans were quite disappointed.

I can think of 8 teams that would easily sell more than 7k tickets to the Independence Bowl.
Seriously:
LSU
Bama
Arkansas
A&M
Auburn
Ole Miss
Tennessee
UGA
USC
OK 9. UF might out draw Vandy and Kentucky.

Glad to see Ole Miss representing the SEC well. Those fans were amazing last Saturday. It really did feel as if I was in Vaught Hemingway Stadium......only a lot shittier environment.

95 Nebraska would wreck every bcs winner. THEY AVERAGED 350 YARDS A GAME RUSHING. they would put up 500 yard rushing against Bama's 2011 defense , which I think is the goat.

lulz.
Maybe 2012--maybe 300 yards. You're smoking crack if you think they do that to last year's squad. Might beat 'em. But let's not get silly.
